Insurance Analyst Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a insurance analyst in California?
Most insurance analyst roles in California require a bachelor's degree in a quantitative or business field and a California Department of Insurance license for positions that involve transacting insurance. The CDI oversees licensing, and candidates typically pass a state-administered exam for the relevant line of authority. Analytical roles that do not involve selling or binding coverage may not require a CDI license, but employers in those positions commonly expect candidates with actuarial coursework or professional designations such as CPCU.
Which companies hire insurance analysts in California?
Employers hiring insurance analysts in California right now include Alliant Insurance Services, Government Employees Insurance Company (Geico), and Apollo Insurance Solutions Group LP, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's large workers' compensation market and the concentration of regional and national carriers in Los Angeles and the Bay Area drive consistent demand from both major insurers and third-party administrators.
Which California cities have the most insurance analyst jobs?
Los Angeles, San Diego, and Palo Alto are the California cities with the most insurance analyst openings. Los Angeles anchors demand through its dense concentration of regional carriers, excess and surplus lines brokerages, and large self-insured employers, while Sacramento draws hiring from state agencies and workers' compensation specialists, and San Francisco hosts corporate analytical teams for national carriers and insurtech firms.
Are there remote insurance analyst jobs in California?
Yes, and more than many comparable roles, since insurance analysis is primarily desk-based and data-driven. About 56% of insurance analyst openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how well the analytical and reporting functions of the role translate to distributed work. Data modeling, reserve analysis, and regulatory reporting tend to be the most consistently remote-eligible areas within the discipline.
How can I get hired as a insurance analyst in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an associate or junior analyst role at a California regional carrier or third-party administrator, where candidates with a quantitative degree and no industry background are regularly considered. Farmers Insurance, ICW Group, and State Compensation Insurance Fund in California run structured training programs for early-career hires. Lateral moves from adjacent roles in accounting, financial analysis, or claims processing are common entry points, and obtaining a California CDI license before applying gives candidates a meaningful edge over those who have not yet started the process.
Where can I find and apply to insurance analyst jobs in California?
You can find and apply to insurance analyst jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings from carriers, brokerages, and third-party administrators across the state. Find the roles that fit your experience and specialization and apply directly to each one.
