Financial Reporting Analyst Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a financial reporting analyst in California?
Most financial reporting analysts in California begin with a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, then pursue CPA licensure through the California Board of Accountancy, which requires completing the Uniform CPA Exam and meeting California's education and experience requirements. While CPA is not always mandatory at entry level, it is the single most valued credential and frequently required for senior or SEC-facing roles. Candidates who combine their degree with internship experience in public accounting or corporate finance are consistently the strongest applicants.
How much do financial reporting analysts make in California?
Financial reporting analysts in California earn a median of about $97,050 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $61,770 for the lowest 10% to over $160,520 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire financial reporting analysts in California?
Employers hiring financial reporting analysts in California right now include Create Music, Mattel, and Applied Materials, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's concentration of publicly traded technology, media, and financial services companies means that SEC reporting experience carries particular weight with many of these employers.
Which California cities have the most financial reporting analyst jobs?
El Segundo, Los Angeles, and Santa Maria have the most financial reporting analyst openings in California. San Francisco and San Jose lead because of the dense concentration of publicly traded technology companies that require ongoing SEC and external reporting work, while Los Angeles draws heavily from entertainment, media, and financial services headquarters that maintain large corporate accounting teams.
Are there remote financial reporting analyst jobs in California?
Yes, and more than most fields. Financial reporting analyst work is largely desk-based and document-driven, making it well suited to remote arrangements. About 17% of financial reporting analyst openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how broadly employers have extended flexibility for this role. The portions of the work most commonly done remotely are financial close tasks, consolidation reviews, and SEC filing preparation, while system implementations and quarter-end reviews occasionally require on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a financial reporting analyst in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is starting in a staff or junior accountant role at a California public accounting firm or a large corporate employer, then moving into financial reporting once you have exposure to the close process or audit work. Large California-based companies in technology and financial services commonly post associate or rotational finance program openings designed for new graduates. Lateral moves from audit associate, accounts payable analyst, or general ledger accountant positions are common. Sitting for the CPA exam and completing at least one internship in public accounting gives candidates a measurable edge with California hiring managers.
Where can I find and apply to financial reporting analyst jobs in California?
