Financial Reporting Analyst Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a financial reporting analyst in New York?
Most financial reporting analyst roles in New York require a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, and employers strongly favor candidates who hold or are pursuing CPA licensure through the New York State Education Department. New York requires passing all four sections of the Uniform CPA Examination administered through NASBA, along with meeting the state's education and experience hours. Large New York employers in banking and asset management also value candidates who have completed internships or rotational programs with Big Four or regional accounting firms.
How much do financial reporting analysts make in New York?
Financial reporting analysts in New York earn a median of about $102,640 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $63,700 for the lowest 10% to over $171,030 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire financial reporting analysts in New York?
Employers hiring financial reporting analysts in New York right now include Bank of China, Brex, and City of New York, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's concentration of global banks, asset managers, and Fortune 500 headquarters means financial reporting analyst demand runs deep across both public companies with SEC obligations and large private firms managing complex consolidations.
Which New York cities have the most financial reporting analyst jobs?
The most financial reporting analyst openings in New York are concentrated in New York, Albany, and Buffalo. New York City dominates because of its density of investment banks, private equity firms, insurance companies, and corporate headquarters, while suburban markets like White Plains and Melville serve regional offices and mid-market companies that rely on local finance talent without requiring Manhattan commutes.
Are there remote financial reporting analyst jobs in New York?
Yes, and more than most fields, since financial reporting analyst work is largely desk-based and document-driven. About 45% of financial reporting analyst openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the role's compatibility with distributed teams. The portions of the work most commonly done remotely include variance analysis, disclosure drafting, and close support, while on-site presence is more often required during quarter-end or for roles with direct controller access.
How can I get hired as a financial reporting analyst in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a staff accountant or junior reporting associate role, which many large New York financial services firms and Big Four offices use as a pipeline into financial reporting functions. New graduates often apply to rotational finance programs at firms like Citigroup, MetLife, or major accounting networks that place candidates into reporting teams. Building toward CPA licensure through the New York State Education Department and gaining exposure to Workiva or Hyperion through coursework or internships gives candidates a clear edge over peers without that credential.
Where can I find and apply to financial reporting analyst jobs in New York?
