Senior Corporate Accountant Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a senior corporate accountant in New York?
Most senior corporate accountant roles in New York require a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance plus a CPA license issued or recognized by the New York State Education Department through its Board of Public Accountancy. The path typically runs from a staff or senior accountant role in public accounting or industry, accumulating the required experience hours for CPA licensure, and then moving into corporate roles. Employers in New York consistently favor candidates who have closed books for a public company or a large private entity.
How much do senior corporate accountants make in New York?
Senior corporate accountants in New York earn a median of about $102,640 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $63,700 for the lowest 10% to over $171,030 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire senior corporate accountants in New York?
Employers hiring senior corporate accountants in New York right now include Newbury Franklin Industrials, GCL, and J.Crew, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. New York's concentration of financial institutions, professional services firms, and large corporate headquarters means demand is spread across a broader range of industries than most other states.
Which New York cities have the most senior corporate accountant jobs?
New York, Buffalo, and Menands have the most senior corporate accountant openings in New York. New York City dominates the distribution because it is home to the headquarters of major banks, asset managers, insurers, and Fortune 500 companies that maintain large corporate accounting teams, while secondary markets like White Plains reflect the finance functions of corporations that have moved their back-office operations to Westchester County.
Are there remote senior corporate accountant jobs in New York?
Yes, and more than most fields, because senior corporate accounting is primarily an analytical and desk-based role that does not require a physical presence on a job site. About 70% of senior corporate accountant openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the broad adoption of flexible arrangements across New York's financial services and corporate sectors. Financial reporting, technical accounting, and consolidation work tend to be the most remote-eligible responsibilities within the role.
How can I get hired as a senior corporate accountant in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is starting as a staff accountant or junior accountant at a large New York employer or public accounting firm, where you build the experience hours required for CPA licensure through the New York State Board of Public Accountancy. Major financial institutions and Big Four firms based in New York City run structured new-graduate rotational and associate programs in finance and accounting. Lateral moves from roles such as financial analyst, accounts payable supervisor, or audit associate are common stepping stones, and sitting for the CPA exam early gives candidates a measurable edge.
