Senior Corporate Accountant Jobs in Illinois: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a senior corporate accountant in Illinois?
The standard path is a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance followed by a CPA credential through the Illinois Board of Examiners, which administers CPA licensure in the state. Most Illinois corporate employers require or strongly prefer an active Illinois CPA license or reciprocal licensure. From there, candidates typically spend several years in public accounting or corporate finance roles before moving into a senior title, building expertise in financial reporting, close processes, and technical accounting.
How much do senior corporate accountants make in Illinois?
Senior corporate accountants in Illinois earn a median of about $80,230 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $54,510 for the lowest 10% to over $131,990 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire senior corporate accountants in Illinois?
Employers hiring senior corporate accountants in Illinois right now include Google, Pregis, and Panduit, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Illinois's concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters in the Chicago metro, including firms in financial services, logistics, and industrials, means corporate accounting roles here tend to involve complex multi-entity consolidations and SEC reporting requirements.
Which Illinois cities have the most senior corporate accountant jobs?
Chicago, Long Grove, and Illinois have the most senior corporate accountant openings in Illinois. Chicago drives the majority of volume as home to a dense cluster of corporate headquarters in financial services, insurance, and manufacturing, while Naperville and Peoria generate consistent demand through major regional employers like Caterpillar and mid-market companies that maintain full corporate finance teams outside the city.
Are there remote senior corporate accountant jobs in Illinois?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 50% of senior corporate accountant openings tied to Illinois are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the largely desk-based, analytical nature of the role. The work most commonly done remotely includes financial reporting, variance analysis, and reconciliations, while roles requiring close collaboration with treasury, legal, or external auditors tend to retain some in-office requirement.
How can I get hired as a senior corporate accountant in Illinois with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is landing a staff accountant or accounting associate role at a large Illinois employer and building toward the senior title internally. Major Chicago-area firms in financial services and manufacturing frequently hire new graduates into rotational finance programs or corporate accounting development tracks. Pursuing CPA eligibility through the Illinois Board of Examiners while in an entry role signals commitment and accelerates promotion timelines, as does prior internship experience with a Big Four or regional public accounting firm in Illinois.
Where can I find and apply to senior corporate accountant jobs in Illinois?
You can find and apply to senior corporate accountant jobs in Illinois on Migrate Mate, which lists current Illinois openings from employers actively hiring for the role. Find roles that fit your experience and apply directly to the ones that match.
