Tax Services Manager Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a tax services manager in New York?
Earning a CPA license through the New York State Board of Public Accountancy is the standard foundation for this role. Candidates typically complete a bachelor's or master's degree in accounting or taxation, pass the Uniform CPA Examination, and satisfy New York's experience requirement before licensure. From there, most managers build several years of hands-on tax compliance and advisory work at a public accounting firm or in a corporate tax department before moving into a supervisory role.
How much do tax services managers make in New York?
Tax services managers in New York earn a median of about $102,640 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $63,700 for the lowest 10% to over $171,030 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire tax services managers in New York?
Employers hiring tax services managers in New York right now include EY, BDO, and CohnReznick, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. New York City's concentration of Big Four offices, regional firms, and large financial-services corporations makes it one of the deepest hiring pools for this role anywhere in the country.
Which New York cities have the most tax services manager jobs?
New York, Harrison, and Stamford consistently post the most tax services manager openings in New York. New York City dominates by volume given its density of Big Four and mid-market accounting firms, investment banks, and multinational corporate headquarters, while Albany and Buffalo support steady demand from regional public accounting practices, state government contractors, and manufacturing and healthcare employers with complex multi-state tax needs.
Are there remote tax services manager jobs in New York?
Yes, and more than most fields, since tax services management is fundamentally an analytical and advisory desk role with few on-site requirements. About 94% of tax services manager openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how normalized distributed work has become in public accounting and corporate tax. Compliance review, tax provision, and client advisory work are the functions most commonly performed fully remotely.
How can I get hired as a tax services manager in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is securing an associate or senior associate tax role at a New York public accounting firm, then building toward a manager title over several years. Big Four and mid-market firms including regional New York practices actively recruit through campus programs at schools like Baruch College, Fordham, and NYU Stern. Passing CPA exam sections early, earning your New York license, and gaining exposure to multi-state compliance or ASC 740 work in a staff role positions you well for an internal promotion into management.
