Finance Assistant Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a finance assistant in California?
Most California finance assistant roles require at least an associate degree in accounting or finance, with many employers preferring a bachelor's degree. California does not require a state license to work as a finance assistant, but earning a bookkeeper certification through a recognized professional body or completing coursework aligned with California Community Colleges' accounting programs strengthens your candidacy considerably. Employers in healthcare and government sectors often expect familiarity with California-specific payroll and tax reporting.
Which companies hire finance assistants in California?
California finance assistant roles are posted by Marriott International, California State University, and Hyatt and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. California's mix of large technology firms, healthcare networks, and financial institutions creates consistent year-round demand for finance assistants at multiple seniority levels.
Which California cities have the most finance assistant jobs?
San Francisco, Irvine, and Long Beach have the most finance assistant openings in California right now. Los Angeles dominates due to its concentration of entertainment, healthcare, and real estate firms, while San Francisco and San Jose reflect the deep accounting support needs of major technology headquarters, and San Diego draws demand from biotech, defense contractors, and hospital systems based in the region.
Are there remote finance assistant jobs in California?
Yes, and they are more common than in many comparable roles because much of the work, including invoice processing, reconciliations, and reporting, is desk-based and software-driven. About 62% of finance assistant openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting a broad shift across California's technology and financial services sectors. Accounts payable and financial reporting support functions tend to be the most frequently offered on a remote basis.
How can I get hired as a finance assistant in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to accounts payable or accounts receivable associate roles at California's large hospital networks, county government offices, and technology companies, which routinely hire candidates with a completed accounting or finance degree and no prior work history. Kaiser Permanente, the University of California system, and large California municipalities run structured new-graduate hiring programs for finance operations roles. Lateral moves from administrative assistant or billing coordinator positions are also common, and completing a bookkeeper certification gives entry-level candidates a concrete credential that stands out in California hiring pools.
Where can I find and apply to finance assistant jobs in California?
You can find and apply to finance assistant jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings updated regularly. Search the available roles, find the ones that fit your experience and location, and apply directly to each employer through the listing.
