Financial Analyst Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a financial analyst in California?
Most financial analyst roles in California require a bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a closely related field. California does not issue a state-specific license for financial analysts, but the CFA designation awarded by the CFA Institute is widely expected by Bay Area investment firms, asset managers, and corporate finance teams. Entry-level candidates typically start in financial planning and analysis, audit, or banking before moving into analyst roles.
How much do financial analysts make in California?
Financial analysts in California earn a median of about $109,110 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $72,840 for the lowest 10% to over $198,280 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire financial analysts in California?
Employers hiring financial analysts in California right now include Apple, Intuit, and Google, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's concentration of technology headquarters, entertainment studios, and major health systems means demand for financial analysts runs across industries well beyond traditional banking and investment firms.
Which California cities have the most financial analyst jobs?
San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Mountain View are the California cities with the most financial analyst openings. San Francisco and its surrounding Bay Area cities draw volume from venture-backed technology companies and asset managers, while Los Angeles hiring is driven by entertainment conglomerates, private equity, and a growing fintech sector, and San Diego reflects demand from biotech and defense contractors headquartered there.
Are there remote financial analyst jobs in California?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 22% of financial analyst openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how well the core work, financial modeling, reporting, and forecasting, translates to a distributed setup. FP&A and equity research roles tend to be the most remote-friendly, while roles involving physical audits or real-time trading floors stay largely on-site.
How can I get hired as a financial analyst in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a rotational or development program at a large California employer: Wells Fargo, Kaiser Permanente, and Apple all run structured finance associate programs that accept recent graduates without full analyst experience. Adjacent roles like junior accountant, financial operations coordinator, or budget analyst at California state agencies also serve as strong launching points. Building a portfolio of financial models and pursuing even the CFA Level I exam signals serious intent to hiring managers.
Where can I find and apply to financial analyst jobs in California?
You can find and apply to financial analyst jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings updated regularly. Find roles that match your experience level and target industry, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
