Financial Analyst Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a financial analyst in New York?
A bachelor's degree in finance, economics, accounting, or a related field is the standard starting point for financial analyst roles in New York. New York does not require a state-issued license to work as a financial analyst, but analysts in securities roles at registered firms must pass FINRA exams such as the Series 7 or Series 63, administered through a sponsoring employer. Pursuing the CFA credential significantly strengthens a candidate's standing in New York's competitive market.
How much do financial analysts make in New York?
Financial analysts in New York earn a median of about $127,930 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $77,540 for the lowest 10% to over $225,380 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire financial analysts in New York?
Employers hiring financial analysts in New York right now include Amazon, Columbia University, and USI Insurance Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's density of global banks, private equity firms, and Fortune 500 corporate headquarters means financial analyst openings appear across a wide range of industries, from financial services and insurance to media and healthcare.
Which New York cities have the most financial analyst jobs?
New York, Valhalla, and Buffalo have the most financial analyst openings in New York. New York City dominates by a wide margin given its concentration of global investment banks, asset managers, and corporate headquarters, while cities like White Plains reflect demand from large regional insurers and diversified financial firms that have long operated outside Manhattan.
Are there remote financial analyst jobs in New York?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 32% of financial analyst openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how much of the work centers on modeling, reporting, and data analysis that translates well to distributed settings. The most remote-friendly segments tend to be FP&A and corporate reporting roles, while client-facing or trading-floor positions are more likely to require in-office presence.
How can I get hired as a financial analyst in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a rotational analyst program at a large New York financial institution, with firms like JPMorgan Chase, Citigroup, and MetLife running structured new-graduate analyst tracks that recruit directly from college campuses. Candidates who come from adjacent roles such as accounting associate, credit analyst, or financial operations specialist frequently move into analyst positions as well. Building an Excel-based modeling portfolio and completing the first CFA level gives candidates a measurable edge when applying to entry roles.
Where can I find and apply to financial analyst jobs in New York?
