Investment Associate Jobs in Virginia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a investment associate in Virginia?
Most investment associate roles in Virginia require a bachelor's degree in finance, economics, or a related field, followed by relevant experience in banking or asset management. While Virginia does not issue a state license for investment associates, most employers expect candidates to hold or pursue FINRA registrations such as the Series 63, Series 65, or Series 79, which are administered through FINRA and recognized across Virginia broker-dealers and registered investment advisers.
Which companies hire investment associates in Virginia?
Employers hiring investment associates in Virginia right now include Capital One, BDO, and Greysteel, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Virginia's concentration of federal contractors, financial services firms, and real estate investment trusts in the Northern Virginia and Richmond corridors sustains steady demand for investment associates across multiple firm types.
Which Virginia cities have the most investment associate jobs?
McLean, Richmond, and Arlington have the most investment associate openings in Virginia. Northern Virginia's proximity to Washington, D.C. drives the largest share of positions, attracting private equity firms, government-linked investment vehicles, and asset managers, while Richmond's established financial services sector and headquarters presence from firms like Capital One and Markel sustain consistent hiring in that market.
Are there remote investment associate jobs in Virginia?
Yes, though they are less common than in purely analytical or technology roles, since many investment associate positions involve in-person deal meetings, client presentations, and team collaboration. About 50% of investment associate openings tied to Virginia are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, with the remote share concentrated in portfolio monitoring, financial modeling, and research-focused sub-roles rather than client-facing or deal-execution positions.
How can I get hired as a investment associate in Virginia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a financial analyst or junior analyst role at a Virginia-based firm, using that position to build the modeling and deal exposure that investment associate roles require. Large Virginia employers such as Freddie Mac and Capital One run structured rotational and new-graduate programs that feed into investment functions. Completing the CFA Level I exam, building a financial modeling portfolio, and targeting roles at regional community banks or boutique advisory firms in Richmond or Northern Virginia are practical ways to build qualifying experience before moving into a dedicated associate position.
Where can I find and apply to investment associate jobs in Virginia?
You can find and apply to investment associate jobs in Virginia on Migrate Mate, which lists current Virginia openings from employers across the state. Search the listings, find roles that fit your background and target market, and apply directly to the ones that match.
