Finance Associate Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a finance associate in California?
Most finance associate roles in California require a bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or economics as the baseline. While there is no state-issued license required to work as a finance associate, candidates pursuing investment advisory work may need to register with the California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation. Progress toward the CFA designation or CPA licensure through the California Board of Accountancy strengthens competitiveness considerably with major employers in the state.
Which companies hire finance associates in California?
Employers hiring finance associates in California right now include KPMG, State Street, and Ascend Partners Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's dense concentration of technology headquarters, asset managers, and large regional banks means hiring activity is distributed across both corporate and financial-services employers throughout the state.
Which California cities have the most finance associate jobs?
San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Irvine have the most finance associate openings in California. San Francisco leads because of its concentration of asset management firms and fintech companies, Los Angeles draws volume from entertainment finance and large corporate headquarters, and San Jose reflects the deep corporate treasury and FP&A functions embedded in Silicon Valley technology companies.
Are there remote finance associate jobs in California?
Yes, and more than many comparable roles. About 21% of finance associate openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how much of the work involves spreadsheet modeling, reporting, and system-based analysis rather than on-site tasks. FP&A and financial reporting roles tend to be the most remote-eligible, while roles involving treasury operations or direct client interaction are more likely to require office presence.
How can I get hired as a finance associate in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a corporate finance rotational or associate development program, which large California employers such as Wells Fargo, Apple, and Pacific Life run specifically for recent graduates. Lateral moves from accounting coordinator, accounts payable analyst, or junior auditor roles are a common bridge. Building proficiency in Excel modeling and earning progress toward CPA licensure through the California Board of Accountancy or CFA candidacy gives candidates a concrete edge even without direct finance associate experience.
Where can I find and apply to finance associate jobs in California?
You can find and apply to finance associate jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Find roles that fit your background and apply directly to the employers posting them.
