Tax Senior Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a tax senior in Texas?
Becoming a tax senior in Texas typically starts with earning a bachelor's degree in accounting and passing the CPA exam, after which you register for licensure through the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy. Most firms expect candidates to have completed the required semester hours in accounting and ethics that Texas mandates for licensure. From there, two to four years in a public accounting firm or a corporate tax department building compliance and provision skills is the standard path to a tax senior title.
How much do tax seniors make in Texas?
Tax seniors in Texas earn a median of about $80,920 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $53,380 for the lowest 10% to over $132,040 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire tax seniors in Texas?
Employers hiring tax seniors in Texas right now include Weaver, BDO, and Deloitte, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Texas's concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters in Houston and Dallas means in-house corporate tax teams are a significant source of openings alongside the Big Four and regional public accounting firms.
Which Texas cities have the most tax senior jobs?
Houston, Dallas, and Austin have the most tax senior openings in Texas. Houston leads because of its dense cluster of energy, petrochemical, and international business headquarters, Dallas draws heavily from financial services and corporate tax centers, and Austin's expanding technology sector has added meaningful in-house tax demand alongside its growing public accounting presence.
Are there remote tax senior jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than most fields, since tax compliance and provision work is largely document-driven and well-suited to remote arrangements. About 40% of tax senior openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how broadly the accounting industry has adopted flexible work models. Federal and state income tax compliance roles and ASC 740 provision positions are the most commonly offered in fully remote or hybrid formats.
How can I get hired as a tax senior in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is joining a regional or Big Four firm in Texas as a staff or associate tax accountant, where structured rotation programs in Houston, Dallas, and Austin build compliance and provision skills that lead directly to promotion. Large Texas employers such as Deloitte and KPMG run new-graduate hiring programs each fall. Candidates who sit for the CPA exam early and gain even one internship season in a public accounting tax group gain a clear edge over those who wait until after graduation.
Where can I find and apply to tax senior jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to tax senior jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings across public accounting firms, corporate tax departments, and regional practices. Search the listings, find roles that fit your experience and specialization, and apply directly to the employers posting them.
