Tax Senior Jobs in North Carolina: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a tax senior in North Carolina?
Most employers require an active CPA license, which in North Carolina is issued by the North Carolina State Board of CPA Examiners after passing the Uniform CPA Examination and meeting the state's education and experience requirements. A bachelor's degree with sufficient accounting credits is the baseline, and candidates who complete the additional credits needed for CPA licensure are strongly preferred. From there, firms typically promote staff accountants into senior roles after demonstrated performance in tax compliance and review work.
How much do tax seniors make in North Carolina?
Tax seniors in North Carolina earn a median of about $82,050 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $53,610 for the lowest 10% to over $146,100 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire tax seniors in North Carolina?
Employers hiring tax seniors in North Carolina right now include TJT, Jobot, and KPMG, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. North Carolina's concentration of large bank holding companies in Charlotte and the growing tech and life sciences sector in the Research Triangle creates steady demand from both corporate tax departments and the public accounting firms that serve them.
Which North Carolina cities have the most tax senior jobs?
Charlotte, Raleigh, and Greensboro consistently post the most tax senior openings in North Carolina. Charlotte leads because of its dense financial services sector anchored by major bank headquarters, Raleigh draws demand from the Research Triangle's technology and life sciences companies, and Greensboro and Winston-Salem contribute through regional manufacturing and insurance company headquarters that maintain in-house tax teams.
Are there remote tax senior jobs in North Carolina?
Yes, and more than most fields. Tax senior work is largely analytical and document-driven, which makes it well suited to remote arrangements. About 59% of tax senior openings tied to North Carolina are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the flexibility large firms and corporate tax departments extend to experienced staff. Federal and multi-state compliance work tends to be the most fully remote, while roles with significant client interaction or provision review often follow a hybrid schedule.
How can I get hired as a tax senior in North Carolina with little or no experience?
The most realistic path is to join a public accounting firm in a staff accountant role and earn a promotion internally after two to three busy seasons. Regional firms like Dixon Hughes Goodman and the Big Four offices in Charlotte and Raleigh run structured new-graduate programs that rotate associates through tax and teach compliance from the ground up. Completing the CPA exam parts while still in a staff role gives candidates a clear edge, and lateral moves from roles in accounting operations or financial reporting are a recognized entry point into corporate tax teams.
Where can I find and apply to tax senior jobs in North Carolina?
You can find and apply to tax senior jobs in North Carolina on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to employers hiring in the state right now. Find roles that fit your experience and apply directly without creating a profile or signing up.
