Senior Consultant Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a senior consultant in California?
Most senior consultants in California follow a path that starts with a bachelor's degree in business, finance, engineering, or a related field, followed by several years of experience in consulting or a specialized industry. California does not require a state-issued license for general management consulting, but roles in financial consulting may require a CPA issued through the California Board of Accountancy, and healthcare consulting roles often expect clinical or regulatory credentials relevant to California's market.
How much do senior consultants make in California?
Senior consultants in California earn a median of about $101,460 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $61,360 for the lowest 10% to over $174,970 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire senior consultants in California?
Employers hiring senior consultants in California right now include KPMG, Alvarez & Marsal, and EisnerAmper, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's concentration of technology headquarters, major financial institutions, and large health systems means demand is spread across multiple industries rather than a single sector.
Which California cities have the most senior consultant jobs?
San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Diego have the most senior consultant openings in California. San Francisco and Los Angeles account for the bulk of opportunities, driven by the density of technology firms, financial services companies, and global consulting firms headquartered or with major offices there, while San Diego's strong biotech and defense presence supports steady demand for specialized consultants in those sectors.
Are there remote senior consultant jobs in California?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 28% of senior consultant openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how much of the work centers on analysis, strategy, and client communications that do not require a fixed office. Engagements that involve on-site client facilitation or secure government work tend to require in-person presence more consistently.
How can I get hired as a senior consultant in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through an associate or analyst consulting role, then building toward senior designation over time. Large California-based firms like Deloitte, KPMG, and Accenture run structured analyst and new-graduate programs at their Los Angeles and San Francisco offices. Adjacent roles in project coordination, business analysis, or industry-specific operations at California technology or healthcare companies also provide the client and delivery experience that consulting firms value when promoting or hiring at the senior level.
Where can I find and apply to senior consultant jobs in California?
You can find and apply to senior consultant jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings. Find the roles that fit your experience and location, and apply directly to the ones that match.
