Senior Consultant Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a senior consultant in New York?
Most senior consultant roles in New York require a bachelor's degree in a relevant field, though many employers in finance and strategy favor candidates with an MBA from a recognized program. New York does not require a state-issued license for general management or strategy consulting. Candidates typically advance from analyst or associate roles at consulting firms, financial institutions, or in-house corporate strategy teams, building client-facing experience before stepping into a senior title.
How much do senior consultants make in New York?
Senior consultants in New York earn a median of about $112,250 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $64,900 for the lowest 10% to over $209,440 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire senior consultants in New York?
Employers hiring senior consultants in New York right now include EY, Alvarez & Marsal, and CHA Consulting, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's concentration of global financial institutions, healthcare systems, and technology firms means senior consultants are recruited across a wide range of industries beyond the traditional Big Four and strategy houses.
Which New York cities have the most senior consultant jobs?
The cities with the most senior consultant openings in New York are New York, Atlanta, and Albany. New York City dominates because it is home to the U.S. headquarters of most major consulting firms and the global financial institutions and corporations that are their largest clients, while Albany draws openings tied to state government advisory and public sector consulting work.
Are there remote senior consultant jobs in New York?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 41% of senior consultant openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the desk-based and analytical nature of the work. Strategy, technology advisory, and financial consulting engagements are the most likely to offer flexible arrangements, though client-facing project phases often require in-person presence in New York City.
How can I get hired as a senior consultant in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through an analyst or associate program at a firm with a New York office, such as the undergraduate recruiting programs run by the large management consulting and financial advisory practices based in Midtown Manhattan. Candidates from adjacent roles in finance, operations, or data analysis at New York corporations frequently move into consulting at the associate level. An MBA from a New York-area school or a relevant certification in project management strengthens a candidate's profile considerably.
Where can I find and apply to senior consultant jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to senior consultant jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across New York City, Albany, White Plains, and the broader state. Find roles that fit your background and apply directly to the employers posting them.
