Revenue Accountant Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a revenue accountant in California?
Most revenue accountant roles in California require a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, and a CPA license issued by the California Board of Accountancy gives candidates a clear hiring edge. To sit for the CPA exam in California, you need a minimum of 150 semester units and qualifying accounting coursework. Many employers, especially in tech and life sciences, also look for candidates with coursework or practical exposure to ASC 606 revenue recognition standards alongside formal credentials.
How much do revenue accountants make in California?
Revenue accountants in California earn a median of about $97,050 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $61,770 for the lowest 10% to over $160,520 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire revenue accountants in California?
Employers hiring revenue accountants in California right now include Commure, Coherent, and Adobe, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's large concentration of technology, SaaS, and life sciences companies means demand for revenue accountants with contract and multi-element arrangement experience is particularly consistent across the state.
Which California cities have the most revenue accountant jobs?
San Francisco, Sunnyvale, and Santa Clara have the most revenue accountant openings in California. The distribution reflects where large technology, entertainment, and life sciences employers are headquartered, with the Bay Area and Greater Los Angeles generating the most volume and smaller hubs like San Jose or San Diego driven by anchor companies in software and biotech.
Are there remote revenue accountant jobs in California?
Yes, and more than most accounting roles. About 33% of revenue accountant openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how much of the work involves system-based analysis, journal entries, and review cycles that translate well to distributed teams. Technical revenue recognition work and close-cycle tasks are the functions most commonly offered with remote or hybrid flexibility.
How can I get hired as a revenue accountant in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is landing a general staff accountant or accounting associate role at a California technology or life sciences company that runs a structured rotational or new-graduate program, then moving into revenue accounting after gaining close-cycle experience. Large California employers like Salesforce, Intuit, and Gilead Sciences hire accounting associates with limited experience and develop them in-house. Pursuing CPA candidacy with the California Board of Accountancy and building exposure to NetSuite or SAP through coursework or contract work strengthens a junior candidate's profile considerably.
Where can I find and apply to revenue accountant jobs in California?
