Architect Jobs in Chicago: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a architect job in Chicago?
Target Chicago's active commercial and institutional sectors: large-scale mixed-use development in the Loop, cultural and civic projects led by nonprofits and city agencies, and the wave of life sciences and tech campus work concentrated in Fulton Market and the Near West Side. Candidates who can show portfolio work on complex urban sites and who have experience navigating Chicago's permitting process stand out from the field.
Which companies hire architects in Chicago?
Companies currently hiring architects in Chicago include JPMorganChase, Capgemini, and Logic, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of November 2026. Chicago's hiring base is unusually deep, mixing globally recognized architecture firms headquartered downtown with large developers, healthcare systems, and university campuses that maintain in-house design staff.
Are there remote architect jobs in Chicago?
Yes, though only partially: hands-on roles tied to site visits, construction administration, and permitting are almost always on-site, while design development, documentation, and project coordination work can often be done remotely. About 86% of architect openings tied to Chicago are remote or hybrid as of November 2026. The most remote-compatible work in Chicago tends to live inside larger firms where documentation and BIM modeling can be done off-site.
How can I get a architect job in Chicago with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point in Chicago is a production or job captain role at a mid-size firm focused on multifamily or commercial interiors, where project volume is high and mentorship is built into the workflow. Chicago's strong design school presence means firms here are accustomed to hiring recent graduates, and institutional employers like the Chicago Park District and Chicago Housing Authority offer structured entry-level positions. Building fluency in Revit and familiarity with Chicago zoning code basics makes a candidate immediately more useful from day one.
Which industries hire the most architects in Chicago?
Chicago architect roles concentrate in Technology & Software, Consulting & Professional Services, and Staffing & Recruiting, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of November 2026. Chicago's ongoing investment in transit infrastructure, the Fulton Market life sciences corridor, and decades of adaptive reuse in neighborhoods like Pilsen and the West Loop keep demand steady across multiple sectors simultaneously.
