Job Summary
My client is seeking an experienced Automation Technician III, as part of the team you will lead instrumentation, controls, commissioning, and advanced troubleshooting. This role requires deep expertise in instrument calibration, system diagnostics, communication networks, and PLC-based control systems.
Responsibilities
Proactively engage with customers and team members to monitor, trouble shoot and implement changes.
Lead installation, configuration, and high-accuracy calibration of all instrumentation (pressure, flow, temperature, analytical, level).
Diagnose and resolve complex control system issues involving PLCs, SCADA, RTUs, VFDs, radio networks, and instrumentation loops.
Perform and oversee commissioning of well pads, compressor stations, and facility automation systems.
Execute advanced troubleshooting and perform logic verification with engineering teams.
Train and mentor Technicians I and II; establish best field practices and standard procedures along with engineering/programmers.
Coordinate maintenance schedules and oversee contractor or vendor work when required.
Review and update documentation: P&IDs, cause-and-effect diagrams, panel drawings, loop sheets, network
diagrams.
Ensure compliance with industry standards (NEC, ISA, API) and company safety policies.
Recommend upgrades for automation reliability, communication performance, and instrumentation accuracy.
Ensure all paperwork is completed in a timely manner.
Participate in on-call rotations and lead response during automation-related downtime or system outages.
Requirements
3+ years of experience in automation/instrumentation in the oil & gas industry.
Expert-level ability to calibrate and troubleshoot complex instrumentation and control systems.
Strong working knowledge of:
o PLCs (Schneider Electric, Allen Bradley, ABB, and any IEC 61131-3 controllers).
o Modbus TCP/IP & serial protocols
o SCADA infrastructure
o Radio and network communication systems
o VFD, motor control.
o SCADA Systems
Ability to interpret and create technical documentation and schematics.
Familiarity with control panel design, hazardous area classifications, and safety standards.
Capable of leading field projects, overseeing installations, and coordinating with engineering.
In depth knowledge of Electrical Standards (NFPA79, National Electric code, UL508A, ISA 101).
Pay: $40.00 - $80.00 per hour
