Automation Jobs in Michigan: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a automation in Michigan?
Becoming an automation professional in Michigan typically starts with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or mechatronics, though associate degrees combined with hands-on technical training are accepted for many technician-level roles. Michigan does not require a state-issued license specifically for automation engineers, but obtaining certifications such as a Certified Automation Professional credential strengthens your candidacy significantly with Michigan's automotive and industrial manufacturers.
Which companies hire automations in Michigan?
Companies currently hiring automations in Michigan include Lear Corporation, General Motors (GM), and ArtiFlex Manufacturing, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Michigan's deep roots in automotive manufacturing mean that both OEMs and their extensive networks of tier-one and tier-two suppliers generate consistent automation openings across the state year-round.
Which Michigan cities have the most automation jobs?
Auburn Hills, Grand Rapids, and Detroit are the Michigan cities with the most automation openings, driven primarily by the concentration of automotive OEMs, parts suppliers, and industrial equipment manufacturers in metro Detroit and the surrounding Oakland and Macomb County corridors, while Grand Rapids draws openings from its strong base of food processing, furniture manufacturing, and diversified industrial employers.
Are there remote automation jobs in Michigan?
Yes, but they're rare. About 35% of automation openings tied to Michigan are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting the hands-on, plant-floor nature of most automation work. The portions of the role most likely to be performed remotely include controls software development, system design, and project management phases that do not require physical presence on the production line.
How can I get hired as a automation in Michigan with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is completing an associate or bachelor's degree in a technical field and targeting co-op or internship programs at Michigan's large automotive manufacturers, many of which run structured early-career programs for engineering and controls candidates. Entry-level controls technician and manufacturing engineer roles at companies with Michigan plants frequently accept new graduates, and lateral moves from electrical maintenance, machine operation, or industrial equipment repair are common stepping stones into automation.
Where can I find and apply to automation jobs in Michigan?
You can find and apply to automation jobs in Michigan on Migrate Mate, which lists current Michigan openings across automotive, industrial, and advanced manufacturing employers. Search the listings to find roles that match your background and apply directly to the ones that fit your experience and location.
