Automation Jobs in Columbus: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an automation job in Columbus?
Columbus's strongest hiring comes from its manufacturing plants, logistics hubs near Rickenbacker, and the growing healthcare technology sector on the east side. Candidates with hands-on PLC programming, robotics integration, or industrial controls experience stand out here. Targeting employers in distribution, automotive supply, and medtech gives you the most realistic entry points, and being flexible on shift work opens additional roles.
Which companies hire automations in Columbus?
Columbus automation roles are posted by JPMorganChase, Siemens, and Ryder System and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. The Columbus market skews toward large manufacturers, third-party logistics operators, and contract engineering firms that support the region's dense industrial base.
Are there remote automation jobs in Columbus?
Yes, though remote work is limited for hands-on automation roles and far more common for systems integration, SCADA configuration, and project management positions. About 33% of automation openings tied to Columbus are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, covering roles where programming and documentation can be done off-site. On-site work still dominates for commissioning, installation, and maintenance in Columbus's manufacturing and logistics facilities.
How can I get an automation job in Columbus with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Columbus is through an associate-level technician or controls technician role with one of the region's contract manufacturers or third-party logistics providers near Rickenbacker. Columbus State Community College's engineering technology programs have established ties to local employers and provide a direct pipeline. Entry candidates who can demonstrate PLC basics, even through coursework or personal projects, move ahead of applicants with only general electrical or mechanical backgrounds.
Which industries hire the most automations in Columbus?
Most automation openings in Columbus sit in Manufacturing, Distribution & Wholesale, and Banking & Financial Services, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Columbus's position as a major distribution hub and its concentrated automotive supply chain make those sectors the primary drivers of local automation hiring year-round.
