Security Consultant Jobs in Ohio: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a security consultant in Ohio?
Most Ohio employers expect a bachelor's degree in cybersecurity, information systems, criminal justice, or a related field combined with a recognized professional certification. The Certified Protection Professional credential from ASIS International and the CISSP from ISC2 carry the most weight in Ohio hiring. Ohio does not require a state-issued license for most security consultant roles, though physical security work may intersect with Ohio's private investigator licensing requirements administered through the Ohio Department of Public Safety.
How much do security consultants make in Ohio?
Security consultants in Ohio earn a median of about $79,350 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $46,560 for the lowest 10% to over $132,720 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire security consultants in Ohio?
Employers hiring security consultants in Ohio right now include Silco Fire & Security, Everon, and Goodyear, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Ohio's concentration of large financial institutions, health systems, and defense contractors means consistent demand for both cybersecurity and physical security consulting expertise.
Which Ohio cities have the most security consultant jobs?
Akron, Columbus, and Cleveland account for the largest share of security consultant openings in Ohio. Columbus leads because it is home to major insurance carriers, financial institutions, and state government agencies, while Cleveland and Cincinnati add volume through healthcare systems, manufacturing headquarters, and regional professional services firms that maintain in-house or contracted security consulting teams.
How can I get hired as a security consultant in Ohio with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving laterally from an IT support, network administration, or law enforcement role into a junior security analyst or associate consultant position. Large Ohio employers such as Nationwide Insurance and major Ohio health systems like Cleveland Clinic and OhioHealth regularly post associate-level security analyst openings that do not require prior consulting experience. Earning a CompTIA Security+ certification before applying gives candidates a clear edge, and Ohio community colleges offer affordable accelerated programs aligned to that credential.
Where can I find and apply to security consultant jobs in Ohio?
You can find and apply to security consultant jobs in Ohio on Migrate Mate, which lists current Ohio openings across the state. Search the available roles, find ones that match your background and target location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
