Applications Manager Jobs in Ohio: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a applications manager in Ohio?
Most applications managers in Ohio start with a bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, or business information systems, then build several years of experience in application support or systems administration. Ohio does not require a state-issued license for this role, but employers consistently value certifications such as PMP, ITIL, or credentials tied to specific platforms like SAP or Oracle. Gaining experience in a major Ohio industry such as healthcare IT or financial services significantly strengthens candidacy.
How much do applications managers make in Ohio?
Applications managers in Ohio earn a median of about $163,640 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $100,900 for the lowest 10% to over $233,510 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire applications managers in Ohio?
Employers hiring applications managers in Ohio right now include Kroger, Foxconn, and Vontier, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Ohio's concentration of large hospital networks, insurance companies, and manufacturing headquarters means openings are distributed across both the private sector and major public institutions statewide.
Which Ohio cities have the most applications manager jobs?
Cincinnati, Stow, and London have the most applications manager openings in Ohio. Columbus leads because of its dense cluster of insurance, financial services, and state government technology operations, while Cleveland's strength in healthcare IT and Cleveland Clinic's expansive systems teams drive demand there, and Cincinnati benefits from large consumer goods and logistics employers anchored by companies like Procter & Gamble and Kroger.
Are there remote applications manager jobs in Ohio?
Yes, and more than many IT roles, since applications management centers on coordination, vendor communication, and system oversight that can be done off-site. About 67% of applications manager openings tied to Ohio are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting the desk-based nature of the work. The functions most commonly offered remotely include application monitoring, documentation, and stakeholder reporting, while on-site presence is more often required during system upgrades or go-live events.
How can I get hired as a applications manager in Ohio with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into an applications manager role from a help desk, systems analyst, or junior application support position at a large Ohio employer. Healthcare networks like Cleveland Clinic and OhioHealth, along with state government agencies in Columbus, regularly hire entry-level IT associates and application support specialists who can grow into management. Earning a platform-specific certification such as an SAP or Salesforce administrator credential gives candidates without direct managerial experience a concrete, employer-recognized advantage in Ohio hiring.
