Automation Specialist Jobs in Nebraska: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a automation specialist in Nebraska?
Most automation specialists in Nebraska enter the field through a two-year electrical engineering technology or mechatronics program at a community college such as Southeast Community College or Northeast Community College, or through a four-year engineering degree at the University of Nebraska. Nebraska does not require a state license for this role, but employers consistently favor candidates who hold vendor certifications in Rockwell Automation or Siemens control systems, which can be earned independently or through continuing education programs.
Which companies hire automation specialists in Nebraska?
Companies currently hiring automation specialists in Nebraska include HDR, Lincoln Premium Poultry, and FNBO - First National Bank of Omaha, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Nebraska's concentration of food processing plants, agricultural equipment manufacturers, and rail and logistics facilities creates steady, recurring demand across the state.
Which Nebraska cities have the most automation specialist jobs?
Omaha, Fremont, and Lincoln have the most automation specialist openings in Nebraska. Omaha leads because of its dense base of food processing operations, corporate distribution centers, and manufacturing firms, while Lincoln's industrial parks and Grand Island's large meat processing and equipment facilities generate consistent demand outside the primary metro.
Are there remote automation specialist jobs in Nebraska?
Yes, but they're rare. About 70% of automation specialist openings tied to Nebraska are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the hands-on, equipment-side nature of most roles. The portions of the work most likely to shift remote are controls programming, software configuration, and project documentation, while installation, commissioning, and floor troubleshooting require on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a automation specialist in Nebraska with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for a controls technician or maintenance electrician trainee role at a large Nebraska processing or manufacturing facility, where on-the-job training under senior specialists is common. Employers such as Tyson Foods and Kawasaki Motors Manufacturing regularly bring in candidates from electrical apprenticeship programs or community college mechatronics tracks. Completing a Rockwell Automation certification or building a small PLC project portfolio strengthens an application significantly for candidates without direct industry experience.
Where can I find and apply to automation specialist jobs in Nebraska?
You can find and apply to automation specialist jobs in Nebraska on Migrate Mate, which lists current Nebraska openings updated regularly. Search for roles that match your experience level and specialization, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
