Senior Software Engineer – Java/AWS Backend
Diversified Services Network, Inc. (DSN) is seeking a full-time Senior Software Engineer – Java/AWS Backend to join our team preferably in Chicago, IL but we're open to hybrid in our Peoria, IL, Dallas, TX or Broomfield, CO offices as well. Position Overview
As a Senior Software Engineer, you will design and develop backend RESTful API web services using a microservices architecture. You will act as a team leader for development and support groups, providing technical leadership, mentorship, and code review to other developers while driving the delivery of valuable business features on cross-functional Agile project teams.
Key Contributions & Responsibilities
- Design and develop backend RESTful API web services using microservices architecture
- Oversee and mentor other developers and conduct code reviews
- Act as team leader for development and support groups, providing programming and technical leadership, guidance, and assistance to other team members
- Work directly on complex application and technical problem identification and resolution
- Drive application development focused on delivering valuable business features
- Maintain high standards of software quality by establishing good practices and habits within the team
- Guide the team in developing structured application/interface code, new program documentation, operations documentation, and user guides in a flexible environment
- Lead development of new functionality and applications on cross-functional Agile project teams
Requirements
Candidate Requirements
Education & Experience Required
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field and 8+ years of relevant experience OR
- Master's degree with 6+ years of relevant experience OR
- In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 10+ years of relevant experience designing and developing software applications in Java is required
Technical Skills (Required)
- Software development experience using Java 17 or higher and Spring Boot RESTful API development
- Experience deploying and maintaining software using public clouds such as AWS or Azure
- Experience with message streaming solutions such as AWS Kinesis, AWS SQS, AWS SNS, Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ, Apache ActiveMQ, or Azure Event Hub
- Experience with datastores such as AWS Aurora, AWS RDS, AWS DynamoDB, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, ElasticSearch, MongoDB, Cassandra, or Redis
- Experience deploying software using CI/CD tools such as Azure DevOps, Jenkins, or GoCD
- Experience working within an Agile framework, ideally Scrum
- Knowledge of software product design and architecture, including architectural patterns such as MVC, Microservices, and Event-driven design
- Solid knowledge of Computer Science fundamentals, such as data structures and algorithms
Technical Skills (Preferred)
- Experience with AI tools is a big plus
- Experience designing well-defined RESTful APIs
- Hands-on experience with API tools such as Swagger, Postman, and Assertible
- Experience with Test Driven Development (TDD) and Behavior Driven Development (BDD)
- Hands-on experience with testing tools such as Cucumber and Selenium and their integration into CI/CD pipelines
- Experience with additional AWS technologies such as API Gateway, ALB, NLB, Fargate, Lambda, S3, and CloudWatch
- Experience debugging and maintaining software on Linux or Unix platforms
