Benefits Consultant Jobs in Chicago: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a benefits consultant job in Chicago?
Your strongest entry point in Chicago is targeting the city's large insurance carriers, regional benefits brokerages, and major hospital systems, which hire consistently throughout the year. Roles concentrate in the Loop and River North. Candidates with experience in group health plan administration, ERISA compliance, or open enrollment coordination stand out here. Familiarity with Chicago's mid-market employer base and multilingual client service skills also give applicants a real edge.
Which companies hire benefits consultants in Chicago?
Companies currently hiring benefits consultants in Chicago include Aon, WTW, and CBIZ, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Chicago's market blends large national insurers with regional brokerages, professional employer organizations, and self-insured corporations headquartered downtown.
Are there remote benefits consultant jobs in Chicago?
Yes, though availability varies by function. Analytical and account management roles tend to go remote, while benefits counseling tied to on-site employee populations stays in person. About 38% of benefits consultant openings tied to Chicago are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting post-pandemic flexibility at many Loop-based employers. Renewals coordination and compliance advisory work are the most consistently remote functions in Chicago listings.
How can I get a benefits consultant job in Chicago with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Chicago is starting as a benefits administrator or HR coordinator at a mid-size company, many of which are clustered in the Loop and along the Metra corridor suburbs. Regional brokerages and third-party administrators also hire entry-level enrollment specialists. Building working knowledge of platforms like Workday or ADP and pursuing a CEBS or group benefits certificate will differentiate you quickly in Chicago's competitive market.
Which industries hire the most benefits consultants in Chicago?
Chicago benefits consultant roles concentrate in Insurance, Consulting & Professional Services, and Accounting & Auditing, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Chicago's position as a national hub for insurance, commodities trading firms, and large hospital networks creates steady, year-round demand that goes well beyond what most comparable metro markets sustain.
