ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for a Senior Business and Data Analyst who wants to help build something, not just run it. You will serve as a strategic analytics partner to business leaders across Flex Pay and the broader Upgrade commercial organization. That means owning executive-level deliverables, shaping how the team operates, and having a real say in where analytics goes next. You will transform complex data into clear, actionable insights, drive smarter decisions, improve operational performance, and shape business strategy through analytics.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
Analytics and Business Intelligence:
- Conduct advanced data analysis, mining, and trend identification to surface meaningful business insights.
- Develop and maintain KPIs, performance management frameworks, and data quality standards.
- Perform root cause analysis, statistical hypothesis testing, and predictive and prescriptive analytics.
- Own data governance and quality assessment practices.
SQL and Data Engineering:
- Write and optimize complex SQL queries using CTEs, window functions, joins, and stored procedures.
- Design and maintain data models, ETL/ELT pipelines, and data warehouse structures.
- Perform data validation, reconciliation, and transformation to ensure analytical accuracy.
Forecasting and Reporting:
- Measure and continuously improve forecast accuracy using trend analysis, seasonality analysis, and statistical methodologies.
- Develop scenario models to support strategic decisions.
- Design executive dashboards, scorecards, and interactive reports that tell a clear story.
- Own QBR preparation and deliver findings directly to senior leadership, including the executive team. You will translate analytical work into business narratives that influence real decisions at the company level.
- Build automated reporting solutions that scale across the organization.
Business Partnership and Executive Communication:
- Partner with stakeholders to gather requirements, document processes, and align on priorities.
- Present technical analysis to C-suite leaders as business narratives and strategic recommendations.
- Facilitate meetings, lead cross-functional collaboration, and support change management initiatives.
WHAT WE LOOK FOR:
- Advanced SQL proficiency including complex joins, CTEs, window functions, and query optimization.
- Experience with Tableau, Microsoft Excel, Redshift, and Databricks.
- You use AI tools like Claude or ChatGPT as a real part of your analytical workflow, not as a novelty. You know when to use them, how to verify their output, and how to integrate them into how you work.
- Strong foundation in statistical analysis, forecasting methodologies, and data modeling.
- Familiarity with ETL/ELT concepts and data warehouse design.
- Skilled at connecting metrics to business outcomes and identifying key performance drivers.
WHAT WE OFFER YOU:
- Competitive salary
- 100% paid coverage of medical, dental and vision insurance
- Flexible PTO
- Competitive 401(k)
- Opportunities for professional growth and development
- Paid parental leave
- Health & wellness initiatives
The compensation range of this position in San Francisco, CA is USD $100,000-$125,000 plus equity and benefits. Within this range, an individual's pay will be dependent on a variety of factors, including without limitation, job-related knowledge, skills, education, and experience.

Business Data Analyst Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a business data analyst in California?
A bachelor's degree in business analytics, statistics, economics, computer science, or information systems is the standard entry point for California employers. There is no state-issued license required to work as a business data analyst in California, but industry-recognized credentials such as the Certified Analytics Professional or Microsoft Power BI certification strengthen applications. California hiring managers consistently value hands-on experience with SQL, Tableau, and Python, which candidates can build through coursework, bootcamps offered by California community colleges, or portfolio projects.
Which companies hire business data analysts in California?
Employers hiring business data analysts in California right now include Apple, TikTok, and Intuit, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's concentration of technology headquarters, large health systems, and financial institutions means demand for this role is consistent across multiple industries rather than tied to a single sector.
Which California cities have the most business data analyst jobs?
San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Jose account for the most business data analyst openings in California. The Bay Area leads because of its density of technology and fintech headquarters, while Los Angeles draws demand from entertainment, media, and e-commerce companies, and San Diego's concentration of biotech and defense contractors sustains steady hiring in those markets.
Are there remote business data analyst jobs in California?
Yes, and more than most fields. Business data analyst work is primarily desk-based and output-driven, which makes it well suited to remote and hybrid arrangements. About 32% of business data analyst openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how broadly California technology and financial services employers have adopted flexible work policies. Roles focused on self-serve analytics, reporting automation, and dashboard development tend to be the most remote-friendly.
How can I get hired as a business data analyst in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an associate or junior analyst role within a large California technology company or health system, where structured analyst development programs exist. Kaiser Permanente, UC system campuses, and major Bay Area technology firms run rotational or new-graduate analyst programs that accept candidates without professional experience. Lateral moves from adjacent roles such as business operations coordinator, financial analyst associate, or data quality specialist are also common entry points. A portfolio demonstrating SQL queries, a Tableau dashboard, or a Python analysis project gives California candidates a concrete edge over candidates with credentials alone.
Where can I find and apply to business data analyst jobs in California?
You can find and apply to business data analyst jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings across industries and seniority levels. Find the roles that fit your background and apply directly to the ones that match.
