Business Systems Engineer Jobs in Massachusetts: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a business systems engineer in Massachusetts?
Most Massachusetts employers expect a bachelor's degree in information systems, computer science, or systems engineering as the foundation. The role carries no state-issued license in Massachusetts, so hiring decisions center on demonstrable technical skills and industry credentials. Certifications such as ITIL Foundation, AWS Solutions Architect, or a Salesforce or SAP credential are frequently cited in Massachusetts postings and give candidates a clear edge over the competition.
How much do business systems engineers make in Massachusetts?
Business systems engineers in Massachusetts earn a median of about $128,240 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $80,000 for the lowest 10% to over $171,650 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire business systems engineers in Massachusetts?
Employers hiring business systems engineers in Massachusetts right now include MITRE, MFS Investment Management, and C-4 Analytics, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Massachusetts's concentration of defense contractors, regional bank headquarters, and large academic medical systems means hiring activity tends to be steady year-round rather than seasonal.
Which Massachusetts cities have the most business systems engineer jobs?
The cities with the most business systems engineer openings in Massachusetts are Boston, Bedford, and Wakefield. Boston and Cambridge drive the largest share of postings through their dense cluster of hospitals, biotech firms, and financial services headquarters, while Waltham and the Route 128 corridor attract significant volume from defense and enterprise software companies that have long operated campuses there.
Are there remote business systems engineer jobs in Massachusetts?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 100% of business systems engineer openings tied to Massachusetts are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting the desk-based and analytical nature of most of the work. Requirements analysis, systems documentation, and process design are the tasks most commonly performed fully remotely, while hands-on ERP configuration or on-site stakeholder workshops often require periodic in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a business systems engineer in Massachusetts with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a business or IT analyst role at a large Massachusetts employer, which shares core skills like requirements gathering and process mapping with the full systems engineer title. Employers such as Fidelity Investments and major academic medical centers in the Boston area run structured associate and rotational programs that bring in candidates from adjacent roles. A completed ITIL Foundation or cloud associate certification, combined with a capstone project or internship demonstrating systems design thinking, makes a candidate competitive for those entry programs without prior engineering job titles.
Where can I find and apply to business systems engineer jobs in Massachusetts?
You can find and apply to business systems engineer jobs in Massachusetts on Migrate Mate, which lists current Massachusetts openings from employers across the state. Find the roles that fit your background and apply directly to the ones that match.
