Summary

The Physician Clinic Registered Nurse is a licensed professional who is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care. Ultimately responsible for documentation of interventions, outcomes, discharge plans, and patient/family education. Collaborates with physicians and other members of the interdisciplinary health care team to provide continuity of care. The registered nurse is responsible for the supervision of and delegation of tasks to appropriate individuals within the clinic. Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate patient care and is accountable to the policies and procedures of the organization.

Responsibilities:

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Demonstrates ability to appropriately modify approach and procedures to meet needs of age/diversity of population served for the following age groups:
2. Neonate (birth – 28 days)
3. Infant (29 days – less than 1 year)
4. Pediatric/Child (1 year – 12 years)
5. Adolescent (12 years – 18 years)
6. Adult (18 years – 65 years)

7. Geriatric (over 65 years)

8. Incorporates cultural considerations in the provisions of care.

9. Knowledge of growth and developmental stages.
10. Considers life changes/effects on health beliefs and behaviors.
11. Provides necessary safety measures.

12. Provides information and involves family/caregiver in decision making.

13. Performs all responsibilities/duties required by Faith Health Physician Services as defined in the scope of practice, to assure that the unique nature of the patient is addressed. This includes, but is not limited to, the age of the patient served.

14. Consistently demonstrate competent use of the nursing process to assess, prioritize, formulate, implement, evaluate and adapt the interdisciplinary plan of care to meet the patient's age-specific needs.
15. Provide information and involves family/caregiver in decision making as appropriate.
16. Use population specific knowledge to appropriately modify approach and procedures to meeting need of age groups served.
17. Consistently and skillfully perform and documents physical screening and tests, including but not limited to, EKG, auditory, glucometer, collection of cultures, venipunctures, urine testing, and TB testing.
18. Assist the Physician with biopsies, cystoscopies, CMG's, cast application and removal, injections and other procedures as directed.
19. Schedule surgery and obtain appropriate insurance authorizations for surgery and tests.
20. Order supplies for the clinic.
21. Clean and process clinic instruments and equipment.
22. Formulate and initiate patient plans of care as appropriate and provide continuity of care to meet the age specific needs.
23. Include and communicates the plan of care to patient, family, significant others and relays pertinent information through appropriate documentation and referral to other health care team members.
24. Carry out physician orders within scope of practice.
25. Records information on the patient record in accordance with charting and regulatory guidelines.
26. Recognizes changes in patient status based on interpretation of assessments and carries out physician orders.
27. Accurately and skillfully performs and documents all procedures and treatments administered to patients during their clinic visit.
28. Delegate and assign appropriate aspects patient care.
29. Organize and adjust workload to meet the needs of the clinic and maintain patient flow.
30. Make appointment call backs to patient/family with appropriate documentation.
31. Appropriately utilizes a triage process for patient call-ins with appropriate documentation.
32. Call in medication orders from physicians to appropriate pharmacy when needed. Make appointments for patients as ordered by physicians. Communicate instructions to patients and others as necessary with appropriate documentation.
33. Review, process and call patients with pending lab x-ray and drug screen results after physician review of those results.
34. Administer IV fluids as appropriate.
35. Calculate and verify dosage for drug administration.
36. Identify educational needs for patient/family.
37. Use available teaching aids to implement teaching plan for assigned patient/family and revises the plan based on evaluation of effectiveness.
38. Maintain a safe and therapeutic patient environment.
39. Assess patient/family level of understanding of their rights and responsibilities as healthcare consumers and includes them in decision making.
40. Advocate for patient's needs through communication and the interdisciplinary planning process.
41. Contribute to the caring environment in the workplace.
42. Assist with implementation of policies and standards from professional and/or specialty organizations in the practice setting.
43. Increase knowledge about the ethical/legal/professional standards of nursing.
44. Promote the profession of nursing in the community.
45. Demonstrate professional accountability.
46. Work to maintain positive team relationships with co-workers, physicians, and other members of the healthcare team.
47. Demonstrate the ability to problem solve and offer solutions.

Hours will be dependent on patient census and workload. Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule, to include after-hours and weekends as necessary.

Job Requirements:

The requirements listed below must be representative of the knowledge, skills, minimum education, training, licensure, experience, and/or ability required.

Education:

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Current Registered Nurse (RN) license or temporary permit from the State of Nebraska required.
Basic Life Support (BLS) obtained within one full month from date of hire (Travelers-required upon hire) required.

Previous clinical experience preferred.
