Chief Financial Officer Jobs in Boston: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a chief financial officer job in Boston?
Landing a chief financial officer role in Boston means targeting the city's dominant sectors: financial services firms in the Financial District, biotech and life sciences companies in Kendall Square and the Longwood corridor, and the large academic medical centers and universities concentrated across the city. Candidates who stand out typically bring deep capital markets or life sciences finance experience, CPA or CFA credentials, and familiarity with the compliance demands of regulated Boston industries.
Which companies hire chief financial officers in Boston?
Companies currently hiring chief financial officers in Boston include Fidelity Investments, Argenx, and AscendX, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Boston's market is particularly strong for CFO roles at growth-stage biotech firms, regional banks, asset managers, and the city's substantial network of hospitals and research institutions.
Are there remote chief financial officer jobs in Boston?
Yes, though remote availability is limited given that chief financial officers typically lead board-level reporting, audit oversight, and executive team collaboration that favors in-person presence. About 31% of chief financial officer openings tied to Boston are remote or hybrid as of June 2026. Strategic and advisory CFO-level work, particularly at smaller Boston startups and PE-backed companies, tends to offer the most schedule flexibility.
How can I get a chief financial officer job in Boston with little or no experience?
The most realistic path into a CFO role in Boston starts with building a foundation in finance at one of the city's many mid-size biotech, fintech, or professional services firms, where VP of Finance and Controller titles often evolve into CFO appointments. Boston's dense startup ecosystem in the Seaport and Kendall Square regularly promotes experienced finance directors into first-time CFO seats, so targeting high-growth companies before they formalize the role is a concrete local strategy.
Which industries hire the most chief financial officers in Boston?
Most chief financial officer openings in Boston sit in Education, Investment & Asset Management, and Insurance, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Boston's concentration of world-class hospitals, research universities, and publicly traded biotech firms creates sustained CFO demand that sets it apart from most other U.S. cities.
