Civil Engineer Jobs in Raleigh: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a civil engineer job in Raleigh?
Focus your search on Raleigh's busiest hiring sectors: municipal infrastructure, residential and commercial development, and transportation engineering tied to NCDOT projects. City of Raleigh agencies, Wake County engineering departments, and regional engineering consulting firms are among the most consistent employers. Candidates with experience in stormwater management, land development permitting, or roadway design stand out because those specialties align directly with Raleigh's ongoing growth and infrastructure investment.
Which companies hire civil engineers in Raleigh?
Companies currently hiring civil engineers in Raleigh include Bohler, Kiewit, and Pennoni, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Raleigh's employer mix tends toward regional engineering consultancies, municipal and county agencies, and construction firms supporting the Triangle's rapid residential and commercial expansion.
Are there remote civil engineer jobs in Raleigh?
Yes, though remote work is limited by nature for civil engineers since much of the role involves site visits, field inspections, and coordination with local permitting offices. About 45% of civil engineer openings tied to Raleigh are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, typically covering roles focused on design, CAD drafting, environmental review, or project management rather than construction observation.
How can I get a civil engineer job in Raleigh with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Raleigh is targeting junior engineer or engineering technician roles at local consulting firms and municipal agencies, where project volume is high enough to support entry-level hiring. Wake County and the City of Raleigh regularly bring on graduate engineers for infrastructure and utilities work. Exposure to AutoCAD Civil 3D and familiarity with North Carolina stormwater or land development processes will differentiate you against other entry-level candidates in this market.
Which industries hire the most civil engineers in Raleigh?
Raleigh civil engineer roles concentrate in Energy, Construction & Real Estate, and Consulting & Professional Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Raleigh's sustained population growth, active road and transit investment, and a wave of large-scale mixed-use development projects keep demand in those sectors consistently high.
