Civil Engineer Jobs in Nashville: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a civil engineer job in Nashville?
Focus on Nashville's busiest hiring sectors: TDOT-connected transportation projects, Metro Water Services, and the wave of commercial and mixed-use development reshaping Midtown and East Nashville. Engineering and design-build firms tied to Nashville's infrastructure boom hire most consistently. Candidates who combine project management experience with local code familiarity and a Tennessee PE license stand out, but engineers working toward licensure find entry points at municipal agencies and mid-size consulting firms.
Which companies hire civil engineers in Nashville?
Employers hiring civil engineers in Nashville right now include Thomas & Hutton, Kimley-Horn, and Morley, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Nashville's hiring mix leans heavily toward engineering consultancies, design-build contractors, and public agencies managing the city's accelerating infrastructure and development pipeline.
Are there remote civil engineer jobs in Nashville?
Yes, though remote options are limited by nature since most civil engineering work is tied to physical sites, inspections, and field coordination. About 25% of civil engineer openings tied to Nashville are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting availability mostly in desk-based specialties. In Nashville, roles in hydraulic modeling, traffic analysis, and project documentation are the most likely to offer flexible or hybrid schedules.
How can I get a civil engineer job in Nashville with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Nashville is through municipal agencies like Metro Public Works or Metro Water Services, which regularly hire engineering technicians and EIT-level staff. Local design-build firms working on Nashville's transit and stormwater projects also bring on junior engineers. Candidates who have completed internships on Tennessee infrastructure projects or have coursework aligned with TDOT standards gain a real edge over general applicants in this market.
Which industries hire the most civil engineers in Nashville?
Nashville civil engineer roles concentrate in Consulting & Professional Services, Construction & Real Estate, and Healthcare & Medical Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Nashville's sustained population growth, the expansion of its transit network, and a multi-year commercial construction cycle have kept demand elevated across these sectors well above national averages for mid-sized cities.
