Job Description Summary:
The School of Nursing at the University of Kansas Medical Center seeks part-time Clinical Teaching Assistants to join our progressive and innovative faculty, staff, and students. Clinical Teaching Assistants facilitate student learning primarily in clinical practice settings, with responsibilities that may also include community-based environments and simulated settings. This position is for the Salina campus and reports to the Salina Campus Dean. The position of Clinical Teaching Assistant is considered a temporary position for the term of the contract.
Job Duties
- Provide ongoing feedback on direct patient care and clinical assignments to support student learning, development, and safe clinical practice.
- Guide students in various clinical care areas, including hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare settings.
- Collaborate with department faculty to ensure alignment with program objectives.
- Foster a learning environment that develops students’ critical thinking, analytical skills, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
- Collaborate with nursing faculty to prepare for clinical, lab, and simulation instruction.
- Create a clinical learning environment conducive to effective learning within resource limits.
- Apply and enforce student-related policies and standards in accordance with KUMC policies, including addressing issues related to student conduct, performance, and professionalism.
- Utilize institutional technology systems, including learning management systems, e-mail platforms, and office software, to support instructions, communication, grading, and documentation.
- Evaluate student progress using established program and School of Nursing methods, including clinical performance evaluations, competency checklist, direct observation, and adherence to course grading criteria and clinical objectives.
- Maintain records in accordance with administrative guidelines and legal standards to support compliance and program requirements.
- Attend all required orientations.
- Attend ALL clinical and lab classes.

Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing.
- This position requires a formal degree in the cited discipline area(s) to ensure that candidates have the foundational knowledge and skill set required to perform the duties of the position. The level of degree is based on accreditation requirements, institutional standards of academic and professional excellence, alignment with peer institution benchmarks, and contributes to the credibility and effectiveness of the role within the university community.
Certifications/Licenses:
- Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the State of Kansas or a multi-state RN license issued by another Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state.
Work Experience:
- One (1) year of relevant patient care experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Work Experience:
- Experience teaching in a nursing program, with at least one course taught.
- Two (2) years of relevant patient experience.
- Experience precepting and/or mentoring nurses.
