INTRODUCTION
Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly, giving consumers the flexibility to buy now and pay later without any hidden fees or compounding interest. Our mission to deliver honest financial products that improve lives extends globally. To support this mission, we are building out the backbone of our fintech systems to ensure they are scalable, compliant, and capable of supporting rapid product innovation. We’re looking for a strong product leader to drive this vision forward!
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
We’re hiring a Senior Product Manager to own the product roadmap for subledger and reporting infrastructure, the Accounting ↔ Engineering interface, and reconciliation and controls that enable month-end close and auditability. This role owns the end-to-end journey of financial data from engineering systems to the general ledger/ERP and partners closely with Accounting, data, and platform teams.
What you’ll do:
- Own the financial reporting product roadmap: subledgers, standardized accounting-event interface, journal-entry flows, GL/ERP integrations, and reconciliation tooling.
- Work with Engineering to define subledger patterns and the Accounting ↔ Engineering interface: accounting-event schemas, API contracts, domain boundaries, and migration strategies for operational systems to adopt the standard.
- Translate accounting policy and audit requirements into product specs, posting logic, SOX controls, and implementable engineering requirements.
- Lead matching/reconciliation strategy and automation: run vendor evaluations, define recon rules and ownership, and deliver reconciliation automation for high-volume, critical accounts.
- Own data lineage, quality metrics, SLAs, monitoring, and remediation flows for critical reports and journal feeds.
- Run product discovery, prioritization, and cross-functional programs: scope pilots, set success metrics, manage tradeoffs, and deliver production systems with Engineering, Accounting, and Finance.
- Drive governance and change management: coordinate Accounting, Finance, Product and Engineering; own go-to-production signoffs, runbooks, and stakeholder training.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
What we’re looking for:
- 4+ years product management experience owning financial platforms or data products — responsible for roadmap, APIs, data models, and cross-functional delivery.
- Practical accounting experience required: hands-on accounting experience with direct ownership of month-end close, reconciliations, and external audits. CPA preferred. Practical domain expertise is more important than the credential alone.
- Proven track record of building and working knowledge of financial systems, subledger → GL flows, journal-entry design, reconciliations, SOX controls, and external audit processes.
- Strong technical fluency — data models, ETL/DBT, SQL, and API design — and the ability to partner tightly with engineering and data teams on lineage and transformations.
- Exceptional communicator and cross-functional influencer: translates accounting requirements into technical specs, drives consensus across Finance & Engineering, and presents tradeoffs to senior leaders.
- Willingness to work East Coast hours.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Accounting, Finance, Computer Science, or other related fields; or equivalent practical experience.

Align your credentials to U.S. GAAP standards
Affirm's accounting team operates under U.S. GAAP, so if your credentials are from outside the U.S., get a formal evaluation through a NACES-member organization before applying. Unevaluated foreign degrees frequently stall H-1B specialty occupation determinations.
Target Affirm's multi-team accounting openings
Affirm regularly hires Accounting Managers across revenue, technical accounting, and financial close teams. Applying to a role that matches your sub-specialty, not just the job title, improves your chances of clearing the specialty occupation threshold USCIS requires.
Confirm sponsorship scope before your first interview
Affirm sponsors both nonimmigrant visas and employment-based Green Cards for accounting roles. Ask the recruiter directly whether the specific role supports H-1B transfer or new cap-subject filings, since not every open position follows the same sponsorship pathway.
Use Migrate Mate to surface Affirm's active openings
Affirm's accounting roles don't always stay open long. Use Migrate Mate to filter Affirm's current Accounting Manager listings by visa type so you can prioritize applications to roles that explicitly support your sponsorship category before they close.
Prepare for DOL prevailing wage scrutiny in fintech
For PERM or H-1B filings, DOL assigns prevailing wage levels based on job duties, not job titles. Accounting Manager roles at fintech companies like Affirm often attract Level III or IV wage determinations, so understand where your offered compensation lands before the offer stage.
Build your case around internal controls and close experience
Affirm's Accounting Manager postings consistently emphasize month-end close ownership and SOX or internal controls exposure. Documenting specific close cycle improvements or audit readiness work you've led strengthens both your application and the specialty occupation narrative in an H-1B petition.

Find Accounting Manager at Affirm JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Affirm sponsor H-1B visas for Accounting Managers?
Yes, Affirm sponsors H-1B visas for Accounting Manager roles. Affirm has a demonstrated history of filing H-1B petitions for accounting and finance functions, including both new cap-subject registrations and transfers for candidates already on H-1B status. If you're mid-status, a transfer is typically faster and doesn't require waiting for the annual lottery.
How do I apply for Accounting Manager jobs at Affirm?
Apply directly through Affirm's careers portal, and flag your visa sponsorship needs early in the recruiter screen rather than waiting until an offer is on the table. You can also browse Affirm's current Accounting Manager openings filtered by visa type on Migrate Mate, which makes it easier to identify roles that align with your specific sponsorship category before you invest time in the application.
Which visa types are commonly used for Accounting Manager roles at Affirm?
H-1B is the most common nonimmigrant visa for Accounting Manager roles at Affirm, given the specialty occupation requirements the role satisfies. Affirm also supports F-1 OPT and CPT for candidates still within their academic authorization window, TN visas for Canadian and Mexican nationals with qualifying accounting credentials, and employment-based Green Card pathways including EB-2 and EB-3 for longer-term sponsorship.
What qualifications and experience does Affirm expect for Accounting Manager roles?
Affirm's Accounting Manager postings consistently require a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, with CPA licensure strongly preferred. Candidates are expected to bring hands-on experience owning a full accounting close cycle, working within a SOX-compliant environment, and applying U.S. GAAP to complex transactions. Fintech or high-growth company experience is frequently mentioned as a differentiator in the hiring process.
How do I plan my timeline if Affirm sponsors my H-1B as a new applicant?
H-1B cap-subject petitions follow an annual cycle: registration opens in March, the lottery runs shortly after, and approved petitions have an October 1 start date. That means you'd typically need to receive and accept an offer from Affirm before early March to meet the filing window. If you're on F-1 OPT, you can begin working before October 1 while your petition is pending under the cap-gap rule, provided your OPT is still valid when the lottery closes.
