For this role, we are seeking a licensed Electrical Engineer with a proven track record of delivering complex, multi-disciplinary projects such as healthcare, life sciences, laboratories, data centers, or commercial developments from concept through completion in the role of Project Manager, Project Leader, or Engineer of Record. This position calls for a strong foundation in technical design and engineering consulting, paired with exceptional project leadership skills including budget management, schedule oversight, risk mitigation, and coordination across disciplines.
As a highly client-facing role, you will be expected to drive project delivery excellence while building trusted client relationships, strengthening Arup’s presence in the San Diego market, and supporting the development and growth of the local team through leadership and mentorship.

THE OPPORTUNITY
- Manage complete project lifecycles, including planning, resource allocation, scheduling, risk mitigation, execution, and handover.
- Responsible for project delivery performance—balancing scope, budget, schedule, quality, safety, and sustainability targets.
- Serve as technical leader and Engineer of Record where appropriate, maintaining ownership of electrical system design and ensuring design quality from concept through construction.
- Lead project teams, fostering high-performing, accountable groups while mentoring engineers and designers and supporting their professional development.
- Serve as the central point of contact for clients, building trust through clear communication, proactive coordination, and effective stakeholder engagement.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across Arup offices, contributing to projects both locally and across the broader region.
- Support the continued growth of Arup’s San Diego presence by participating in client meetings, industry events, and market engagement activities that strengthen relationships with clients, architects, contractors, and partners in the region.
- Contribute to project commercial performance through responsible financial management, including forecasting, change management, and delivery oversight.
- Provide insights on market opportunities, project pipelines, and client needs to help inform strategic planning and resourcing for the office.
IS THIS ROLE RIGHT FOR YOU?
- Bachelor’s degree required; graduate degree a plus.
- 15+ years of electrical engineering and project management experience within the healthcare, data center, laboratory, rail, or property market in California required.
- Professional Engineering License in US required.
- Demonstrated experience leading complex projects from concept through construction while maintaining high technical quality and strong client relationships.
- Experience serving as project leader, project manager, or Engineer of Record for major electrical engineering systems.
- Strong communicator who can effectively collaborate with clients, architects, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Interest in helping grow Arup’s presence in the San Diego market by building relationships within the design and construction community.
- Experience mentoring engineers and supporting the development of high-performing, diverse teams.
