Align Your Credentials with U.S. Accreditation Standards
Adjunct roles at U.S. universities typically require a master's degree or higher in a relevant field. If your degree is from outside the U.S., get a credential evaluation from a NACES-approved service before applying so Augsburg's HR team can verify equivalency quickly.
Target Open Positions in Your Specific Discipline
Augsburg posts adjunct openings across many departments, so search by subject area rather than browsing all open roles. Use Migrate Mate to filter Adjunct Instructor postings at Augsburg by discipline and sponsorship type to find the most relevant openings.
Clarify Sponsorship Intent Before Accepting an Offer
Adjunct contracts at smaller universities are often semester-by-semester, which complicates H-1B petitions. Before signing, confirm in writing that Augsburg's HR team will file an H-1B petition and whether they treat the position as continuing or temporary for USCIS purposes.
Understand How OPT Cap-Gap Affects Teaching Timelines
If you're on F-1 OPT and your OPT expires before October 1, cap-gap protection extends your work authorization automatically if an H-1B petition is filed on your behalf. Confirm Augsburg submits the I-129 petition before your OPT end date to avoid a gap in teaching eligibility.
Request a TN Visa Letter Covering Your Full Teaching Scope
Canadian and Mexican nationals teaching at Augsburg may qualify for TN status under the USMCA. Ask HR to specify your exact course subjects and confirm they fall within an approved TN professional category, since broad or interdisciplinary adjunct roles can create ambiguity at the border.
Prepare a Teaching Portfolio That Reflects U.S. Classroom Expectations
Augsburg's adjunct hiring panels typically review a syllabus sample, teaching philosophy, and evidence of student engagement. Tailor these materials to reflect outcomes-based instruction, which aligns with accreditation standards U.S. institutions use when evaluating international candidates for sponsored positions.

Find Adjunct Instructor at Augsburg University JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Augsburg University sponsor H-1B visas for Adjunct Instructors?
Yes, Augsburg University has sponsored H-1B visas for Adjunct Instructor roles. Universities are generally cap-exempt H-1B employers, which means petitions can be filed at any time of year rather than being subject to the annual lottery. This is a meaningful advantage for international instructors who need predictable start dates aligned with semester schedules.
How do I apply for Adjunct Instructor jobs at Augsburg University?
Applications are submitted through Augsburg's careers portal, where postings list department-specific requirements and contact information. You can also browse current Adjunct Instructor openings at Augsburg filtered by visa sponsorship type on Migrate Mate. When applying, submit a cover letter, CV, unofficial transcripts, and a teaching statement tailored to the listed course or department.
Which visa types are commonly used for Adjunct Instructor roles at Augsburg University?
H-1B is the most common long-term option for adjunct instructors at U.S. universities. F-1 OPT and CPT are used by recent graduates in the shorter term, and TN status is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals whose teaching field aligns with an approved USMCA professional category. Each visa type has different authorization periods and renewal requirements.
What qualifications are expected for Adjunct Instructor positions at Augsburg University?
Most Adjunct Instructor postings at Augsburg require at least a master's degree in the relevant subject area, and doctoral credentials are often preferred for upper-division or graduate-level courses. Prior teaching experience, evidence of student engagement, and a clear teaching philosophy strengthen applications. If your degree is from outside the U.S., a NACES-approved credential evaluation is strongly advisable.
How do I plan my timeline if Augsburg University is sponsoring my H-1B?
Because universities are cap-exempt H-1B employers, USCIS can receive petitions year-round with no lottery. Standard processing takes three to five months, and premium processing reduces that to roughly 15 business days. Build your start date around semester deadlines and confirm with Augsburg's HR team when they need to initiate the petition to meet your teaching contract's commencement date.
