Tailor your CV to academic medical standards
Baylor College of Medicine evaluates Physics candidates on research output, publications, and grant experience. Format your CV to highlight peer-reviewed work, clinical physics certifications like DABR, and any NIH-adjacent research, not a standard industry resume.
Target roles that align with Baylor's research missions
Baylor's Physics hiring concentrates in radiation oncology physics, imaging science, and translational research. Applying to roles outside these concentrations reduces your sponsorship odds, as departments with active grant funding are most likely to initiate H-1B or PERM filings.
Clarify sponsorship intent before your first interview
Ask the hiring department directly whether the position is approved for H-1B sponsorship before investing in multiple interview rounds. Academic medical centers sometimes distinguish between research-funded roles and cost-center positions when deciding whether to file.
Use Migrate Mate to identify open Physics roles at Baylor
Search Migrate Mate to filter Physics positions at Baylor College of Medicine that are open to visa sponsorship. It saves you from applying to postings where international candidates aren't being considered, which is common at large academic institutions.
Align your J-1 waiver strategy before accepting an offer
If you're finishing a J-1 postdoc and subject to the two-year home residency requirement, confirm your waiver pathway with Baylor's HR before you accept. Institutions in the Texas Medical Center area regularly support Conrad State 30 waivers, but the process must begin early.

Find Physics at Baylor College of Medicine JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Baylor College of Medicine sponsor H-1B visas for Physicists?
Yes, Baylor College of Medicine sponsors H-1B visas for Physics roles, particularly in research and medical physics departments. Sponsorship is most consistent for positions tied to active grant funding or clinical operations. You should confirm sponsorship availability for your specific role during the offer process, since not every posting is pre-approved for filing.
How do I apply for Physics jobs at Baylor College of Medicine?
Applications go through Baylor College of Medicine's careers portal, where Physics roles are listed under research, clinical, and faculty categories. You can also browse open positions filtered by visa sponsorship eligibility on Migrate Mate, which surfaces Baylor Physics postings specifically relevant to international candidates. Tailoring your application to Baylor's research focus areas strengthens your profile significantly.
Which visa types does Baylor College of Medicine commonly use for Physics roles?
Baylor College of Medicine most commonly uses H-1B, J-1, and TN visas for Physics positions. J-1 is prevalent for postdoctoral researchers and visiting scientists. TN is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying Physics roles. For candidates pursuing permanent residence, Baylor also supports EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship through the PERM labor certification process.
What qualifications does Baylor College of Medicine expect for Physics roles?
Most Physics positions at Baylor require at minimum a Master's degree, with a Ph.D. expected for research-track and faculty roles. Clinical medical physics positions typically require or strongly prefer board certification from the American Board of Radiology (ABR). Research roles value a publication record aligned with Baylor's active areas, including imaging, radiation oncology physics, and computational biology.
How do I navigate the sponsorship timeline when starting a Physics role at Baylor College of Medicine?
H-1B petitions must be filed before your current work authorization expires, and USCIS requires the employer to initiate filing. If you're on F-1 OPT, flag your expiration date to Baylor HR early since cap-subject H-1B filings have an April 1 deadline for October 1 start dates. For Green Card filings, PERM labor certification adds significant lead time, so raise that conversation at the offer stage.
