Position Overview
The Standards and Compliance Manager ensures businesses meet and maintain BBB Accreditation Standards, oversees vetting, coordinates with licensing agencies, identifies process improvements, and leads, coaches, and mentors the vetting team.
Essential Functions
The Standards and Compliance Manager reports to Vice President of Operations and works onsite in the Omaha office.
The Standards and Compliance Manager has primary responsibility in these essential functions:
- Working with the staff to oversee the vetting and accreditation process for new and renewing businesses, ensuring all decisions align with established standards and organizational policies.
- Works alongside the team by assisting with the processing of new and renewal accreditation applications.
- Ensures staff are entering data updates accurately, promoting consistency and implementing processes that support reliable, up-to-date business profiles.
- Setting clear expectations for job performance and holding employees accountable for meeting expectations; developing team members; and upholding ethics/values of BBB.
- Communicating clearly, consistently, and in a timely manner with the management team about new initiatives, procedural changes, or goals.
- Identifying trends and emerging needs to improve efficiency and ensure deadlines are consistently met.
Qualifications
The following experience/education is required for this role.
- 2+ years in a management role is required.
- Bachelor’s degree in business or management is preferred.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills for interacting with employees and end users.
- Strong coaching, mentoring, motivating, communication and people development skills required.
- Strong track record of making well-reasoned decisions and implementing change.
- Ability to lead and inspire others in a fast-paced environment.
Daily Deliverables
The Standards and Compliance Manager role is demanding, and no two days are likely to be the same. This list is representative of work that could occur on any given day and is not a comprehensive list.
- Communicates throughout the organization in the interest of clarifying and simplifying processes, holding team members accountable, developing people, and motivating/engaging employees.
- Interacts with clients to understand issues, be highly responsive, and demonstrate high levels of service, ethical standards, and commitment to the mission of the BBB.
- Analyzes processes and procedures to devise incremental improvements and continuously seek better ways of working more efficiently and effectively.
- Mentors and coaches team members so that the organization is stronger each day than it was the day before.
- Fills in occasionally when key personnel are unavailable. Using these opportunities to observe processes and employee performance and to stay abreast of emerging trends or needed changes.
- Conducts regular team and 1:1 meetings to build competence, confidence and capacity, to communicate needs, and to get input on priority matters.
- Monitors resource allocation and makes decisions related to resource allocation (staffing, equipment, services, etc.).
- Provides opportunities for team members to learn new skills and tackle stretch assignments. Prepares team members who demonstrate potential and commitment for next-level roles.
- Process and evaluate accreditation applications in collaboration with the team, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established standards.
- Communicate and collaborate with prospective accredited businesses throughout the application and approval process.
Additional Requirements
The nature of the Standards and Compliance Manager’s role requires the following to complete work tasks:
- On-site presence Monday through Friday is required for this role. Following successful completion of a 90-day probationary period, a hybrid work arrangement may be available, with in-office expectations Tuesday through Thursday and remote work permitted on Mondays and Fridays.
- Ability to work beyond scheduled hours as necessary to meet critical deadlines, including payroll cutoff periods.
- Strong communication skills in written and spoken English.
