INTRODUCTION
We’re not just building better tech. We’re rewriting how data moves and what the world can do with it. With Confluent, data doesn’t sit still. Our platform puts information in motion, streaming in near real-time so companies can react faster, build smarter, and deliver experiences as dynamic as the world around them.
It takes a certain kind of person to join this team. Those who ask hard questions, give honest feedback, and show up for each other. No egos, no solo acts. Just smart, curious humans pushing toward something bigger, together.
One Confluent. One Team. One Data Streaming Platform.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
As a Senior Software Engineer II at Confluent, you will take ownership of critical backend systems in Stream Governance products that underpin our data streaming platform. You’ll lead the design and delivery of large-scale, distributed services that must be secure, highly available, and easy to operate across regions and clouds.
The Stream Governance product portfolio is crucial to achieving Confluent’s mission to put event streaming at the heart of every organization. Our mission is to provide a robust, cloud-native platform that ensures data quality and integrity by standardizing structure and enforcing intelligent rules across every stream. You will be responsible for delivering critical functionalities like Confluent Schema Registry, Data Contracts, and Policies.
In this role, you will collaborate closely with the team and key stakeholders to design, architect, and develop cloud-native, multi-tenant services for Stream Governance. You will be responsible for guiding the vision, providing technical leadership, mentoring, and enabling a high-performing engineering team to tackle complex distributed data challenges at scale.
You’ll act as a technical leader: setting direction for projects, making architecture decisions, mentoring engineers, and partnering with cross-functional stakeholders to ship high-impact work.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Develop and architect the cloud-native Stream Governance platform - a multi-tenant, highly available, and scalable service for Kafka and real-time data.
- Own and lead the end-to-end design and implementation of complex backend services within a cloud-native, microservices-based environment.
- Drive projects from requirements and design through implementation, rollout, and ongoing operation in production.
- Make architecture and technical decisions that thoughtfully balance reliability, scalability, performance, and operability.
- Solve complicated technical projects with high quality, provide specialized technical guidance to the team, and mentor/support other engineers through code reviews and design reviews.
- Evaluate and enhance the efficiency of our platform's technology stack, ensuring we keep pace with industry trends and adopt state-of-the-art solutions.
- Take responsibility for developing, managing, and maintaining a mission-critical service with a 99.99 SLA running across 100+ AWS, GCP, and Azure regions.
- Partner across engineering and with other key stakeholders to create and execute the overall roadmap for delivering a top-notch Data Streaming Platform.
- Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement, inclusive collaboration, and high technical standards.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING:
- 5+ years of industry experience designing, building, scaling, and operating backend systems in production.
- Deep proficiency in at least one major backend programming language (e.g., Java, Go, C/C++, or Python) and strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, and system design.
- Hands-on experience with distributed systems, such as event-driven architectures, high-throughput services, or large-scale data pipelines. A strong understanding of consistency, fault tolerance, and performance tradeoffs.
- Strong experience running production services in a public cloud (AWS, GCP, or Azure), including containerized workloads (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
- Expertise in cloud-native technology, including networking & security, and experience being part of an oncall rotation.
- Proven experience in leading and mentoring technical teams.
- A track record of technical leadership: driving projects, influencing architecture, and coordinating work across multiple engineers or teams.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to align stakeholders, explain complex ideas clearly, and drive decisions.
- BS, MS, or PhD in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
WHAT GIVES YOU AN EDGE:
- Experience building or operating mission-critical, multi-tenant, or multi-region services with strict availability and latency requirements.
- Familiarity with data streaming technologies such as Apache Kafka, Flink, or similar systems.
- Demonstrated impact beyond your immediate team, such as driving cross-org initiatives or technical vision.
- Contributions to open source, technical writing, or speaking that showcase technical depth.

Align your credentials to Confluent's stack
Confluent's Technician roles center on distributed systems, Kafka infrastructure, and cloud environments. Before applying, document hands-on experience with these technologies in your resume so hiring managers can immediately connect your background to open requirements.
Verify your OPT timeline before outreach
If you're on F-1 OPT, check your I-20 end date and STEM extension eligibility before targeting Confluent. Roles that involve direct infrastructure support often qualify for STEM OPT, giving you up to 36 months of work authorization while pursuing a longer-term sponsorship path.
Target Confluent's infrastructure teams directly
Confluent organizes Technician hiring around its platform reliability and cloud operations functions. Search for roles tied to site reliability, data infrastructure, or technical support rather than generic engineering titles to find positions where sponsorship is most actively used.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Confluent's open roles
Browse Confluent's current Technician openings filtered by visa type on Migrate Mate so you only engage with roles where sponsorship is confirmed, saving time you'd otherwise spend researching each posting individually.
Understand the LCA requirement before your offer stage
Before Confluent can file your H-1B petition, it must certify a Labor Condition Application with the DOL confirming your offered wage meets the prevailing rate. Knowing this process exists helps you ask informed questions during offer negotiations without surprising your recruiter.
Prepare for PERM timing if pursuing a Green Card
Confluent sponsors EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards for Technician roles, but PERM labor certification through the DOL typically takes 12 to 18 months before USCIS even receives your immigrant petition. Raise permanent residence interest early in your tenure so the process starts without delay.

Find Technician at Confluent JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Confluent sponsor H-1B visas for Technicians?
Yes, Confluent sponsors H-1B visas for Technician roles. The company has a documented pattern of filing H-1B petitions for technical and infrastructure positions. Because H-1B cap-subject filings are subject to an annual lottery, timing your application cycle and confirming sponsorship availability with the recruiter early in the process is practical preparation.
How do I apply for Technician jobs at Confluent?
Apply directly through Confluent's careers page or use Migrate Mate to browse their current Technician openings filtered by visa sponsorship type. Tailor your application to reflect experience with distributed systems, Kafka, or cloud infrastructure, since those are the technical areas most relevant to Confluent's Technician hiring. Mention your visa status clearly in early recruiter conversations.
Which visa types does Confluent commonly use for Technician roles?
Confluent sponsors H-1B, TN, and F-1 OPT for Technician roles, along with EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visa pathways for permanent residence. TN visas apply to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying technical occupations. F-1 OPT, including the STEM extension, is commonly used by recent graduates before transitioning to H-1B sponsorship.
What qualifications does Confluent expect for sponsored Technician positions?
Confluent's Technician roles typically require a bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related engineering field, along with practical experience in cloud platforms, data infrastructure, or systems operations. For H-1B eligibility, the position must qualify as a specialty occupation, meaning the degree requirement is a real prerequisite, not a preference listed to broaden the candidate pool.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a Confluent Technician offer?
For H-1B, USCIS standard processing runs three to five months after the April 1 filing date, with an October 1 start date if selected in the lottery. Premium processing reduces adjudication to 15 business days. For Green Card pathways, PERM labor certification with the DOL typically precedes USCIS filing by 12 to 18 months, so the full timeline from offer to permanent residence approval spans several years.
