Align your portfolio to industrial software
Eaton's Lead Software Engineer roles center on embedded systems, IoT platforms, and industrial automation. Highlight experience with firmware, real-time systems, or power management software before applying, as generalist web development backgrounds get less traction here.
Clarify sponsorship scope during screening
Eaton sponsors multiple visa types for this role, but not every hiring manager knows which categories their team's budget covers. Ask HR directly whether the posting supports H-1B cap-subject filing or cap-exempt transfer before advancing to technical rounds.
Request PERM clarity before accepting an offer
For EB-2 or EB-3 Green Card pathways, DOL's PERM labor certification process typically takes one to two years before USCIS adjudicates the petition. Ask Eaton's immigration team upfront whether they initiate PERM concurrently with H-1B approval or on a separate track.
Target Eaton divisions with active software build-outs
Eaton's Electrical and eMobility segments have been scaling software teams for grid-edge and vehicle electrification products. Roles in these divisions are more likely to have open headcount with sponsorship budget than legacy manufacturing operations lines.
Use Migrate Mate to filter verified sponsorship openings
Not every Lead Software Engineer posting on general job boards reflects active sponsorship intent. Search Migrate Mate to surface Eaton roles specifically verified for visa sponsorship, so you spend time on applications that can actually move forward.

Find Lead Software Engineer at Eaton JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Eaton sponsor H-1B visas for Lead Software Engineers?
Yes, Eaton sponsors H-1B visas for Lead Software Engineer roles. The company participates in the annual H-1B cap lottery for new applicants and also files H-1B transfers for candidates already holding the status with another employer. Sponsorship availability can vary by division and hiring cycle, so confirming directly with the recruiter early in the process is the most reliable approach.
How do I apply for Lead Software Engineer jobs at Eaton?
Applications go through Eaton's careers portal, where you can filter by job function and location. You can also browse Lead Software Engineer openings at Eaton that are verified for visa sponsorship through Migrate Mate, which makes it easier to identify roles where international candidates are actively considered before submitting an application.
Which visa types does Eaton commonly use for Lead Software Engineer roles?
Eaton sponsors H-1B visas as the primary work authorization pathway for Lead Software Engineers, along with TN visas for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying roles. For degree-holder candidates earlier in their careers, F-1 OPT and CPT are also supported. Longer-term, Eaton initiates Green Card sponsorship through the EB-2 and EB-3 employment-based preference categories.
What qualifications does Eaton expect for a Lead Software Engineer?
Eaton typically expects a bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related technical discipline, combined with hands-on experience in embedded systems, industrial software, or power electronics software development. Lead-level roles generally require demonstrated experience owning software architecture decisions and mentoring junior engineers, not just individual contributor output.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for a role at Eaton?
For H-1B sponsorship, the timeline depends on whether you need a new cap-subject petition or an existing H-1B transfer. Cap-subject petitions target an October 1 start date following the March lottery. Transfers can move faster, sometimes within 60 days. Green Card sponsorship via PERM through DOL adds one to two years before USCIS can adjudicate the immigrant petition, separate from your work authorization timeline.
