Align your degree to EOG's disciplines
EOG's engineering roles consistently require degrees in petroleum, mechanical, chemical, or electrical engineering. If your credential is from a foreign institution, get a course-by-course evaluation from a NACES-member agency before applying so your qualifications translate cleanly.
Target EOG's upstream operations directly
EOG focuses on exploration and production across U.S. basins like the Permian and Eagle Ford. Applications tied to field development, reservoir analysis, or production engineering align with where active hiring happens and where sponsorship decisions get made.
Search open EOG engineering roles on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters job listings by visa sponsorship type, so you can surface EOG's engineering openings that explicitly support H-1B or OPT candidates without sifting through listings that don't.
Start OPT paperwork at least ninety days early
USCIS requires your DSO to submit the OPT application no earlier than 90 days before your program end date. Missing that window delays your start date, which can complicate EOG's onboarding timeline for field-based engineering roles.
Understand the H-1B cap and EOG's filing window
EOG is a cap-subject employer, meaning H-1B petitions go through the annual lottery. USCIS opens registration in March for an October 1 start. Plan your final interview rounds and offer timing to land well before the March registration window closes.
Prepare for PERM's prevailing wage requirements upfront
If you're pursuing a Green Card through EOG via PERM labor certification, DOL sets a prevailing wage for your role and location. Engineering salaries in oil and gas regions vary by basin, so confirm your offered compensation meets the DOL wage level before the process begins.

Does EOG Resources sponsor H-1B visas for Engineers?
Yes, EOG Resources sponsors H-1B visas for engineering roles. As a cap-subject employer, EOG must submit registrations during the USCIS H-1B lottery period each spring for an October 1 start date. Candidates should time their application process to align with that annual window, since offers contingent on H-1B approval depend on lottery selection.
How do I apply for Engineering jobs at EOG Resources?
Apply through EOG's careers portal and filter for engineering disciplines relevant to your background, such as petroleum, mechanical, or chemical engineering. Tailor your resume to upstream oil and gas operations, including any experience with reservoir modeling, production optimization, or field development. Visa sponsorship requirements should be addressed directly during the recruiter screen.
Which visa types does EOG Resources commonly use for Engineering roles?
EOG Resources sponsors H-1B visas for specialty occupation engineering positions and supports F-1 OPT and CPT for students in qualifying STEM programs, which include a 24-month STEM OPT extension. For candidates targeting permanent residence, EOG uses EB-2 and EB-3 immigrant visa categories through the PERM labor certification process. TN status is also available for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering roles.
What qualifications does EOG Resources expect for sponsored Engineering positions?
EOG typically requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant engineering discipline for sponsored roles. Petroleum, mechanical, chemical, and electrical engineering are the most common. Practical experience with upstream oil and gas operations, drilling, completions, or production facilities strengthens your candidacy significantly. Foreign credentials should be evaluated by a recognized credential evaluation service to confirm U.S. equivalency before you apply.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take for EOG Engineering roles?
Timeline depends on visa type. F-1 OPT authorization takes roughly three to five months from application through USCIS. H-1B petitions filed under standard processing take three to six months after the October 1 cap period opens. PERM-based Green Card sponsorship, including EB-2 or EB-3, typically spans one to three years depending on your priority date and country of birth. Use Migrate Mate to identify EOG openings where sponsorship is confirmed before investing in the process.
