Align your credentials to Ford's EV focus
Ford's Electrical Engineer openings increasingly center on high-voltage battery systems, power electronics, and EV charging architecture. Tailor your resume and portfolio to reflect hands-on experience in these areas before you apply.
Verify your degree field matches specialty occupation
USCIS requires your degree to align directly with the role. Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or closely related fields satisfy this for most Ford postings. A degree in an unrelated discipline, even with strong experience, creates petition risk.
Understand the LCA filing sequence before your offer
Ford's HR team must file a certified Labor Condition Application with DOL before your H-1B petition reaches USCIS. Confirm with your recruiter that this step is in motion early so it doesn't delay your start date.
Use Migrate Mate to surface Ford's open roles
Ford posts Electrical Engineer positions across multiple business units and locations simultaneously. Use Migrate Mate to filter for Ford roles by visa type so you're applying to positions actively open to sponsored candidates.
Plan your H-1B cap timing around Ford's hiring cycle
H-1B cap petitions have an October 1 start date, so Ford typically initiates sponsorship paperwork in January or February for a fall start. Receiving an offer by late winter gives both sides enough runway to meet the USCIS filing window.

Find Electrical Engineer at Ford Motor Company JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Ford Motor Company sponsor H-1B visas for Electrical Engineers?
Yes, Ford Motor Company sponsors H-1B visas for Electrical Engineers. The company files petitions for both cap-subject candidates and cap-exempt transfers. Electrical Engineering roles focused on vehicle electrification, power electronics, and embedded systems consistently meet USCIS specialty occupation criteria, as the position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a directly related engineering field.
How do I apply for Electrical Engineer jobs at Ford Motor Company?
Applications go through Ford's careers portal at ford.com/careers. Search by job function, location, and keyword terms like 'electrical systems' or 'EV' to surface relevant openings. You can also browse Ford's sponsored Electrical Engineer roles directly on Migrate Mate, which filters listings by visa type so you can quickly identify positions open to international candidates.
Which visa types does Ford Motor Company commonly use for Electrical Engineers?
Ford sponsors H-1B, E-3, TN, and F-1 OPT and CPT for Electrical Engineers depending on your nationality and career stage. Australian citizens are eligible for the E-3, which carries no lottery and processes through a consular interview. Canadian and Mexican nationals may qualify under TN status for qualifying engineering roles. For long-term employment, Ford also supports EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card sponsorship.
What qualifications does Ford look for in Electrical Engineer candidates who need sponsorship?
Ford expects a bachelor's degree at minimum in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related discipline. For mid-level and senior roles, hands-on experience with automotive-grade systems, particularly high-voltage battery platforms, power electronics, AUTOSAR, or functional safety standards like ISO 26262, is consistently emphasized in job postings. Advanced degrees strengthen both your application and the specialty occupation basis for your visa petition.
How do I time the visa sponsorship process when targeting Ford?
If you need an H-1B, Ford typically begins petition preparation in January through March for an October 1 employment start, the earliest date cap-subject H-1B approvals take effect. Build your job search timeline so you have an offer in hand by late winter. E-3 and TN candidates have more flexibility since those categories are not subject to an annual cap or lottery.
