Frame retail leadership experience for specialty occupation
Business Manager roles at Gap require demonstrating that the position qualifies as a specialty occupation. Highlight how your degree in business, retail management, or a related field directly ties to the analytical and operational responsibilities of the role, not just general supervisory duties.
Target Gap district and regional openings strategically
Gap's Business Manager postings are spread across high-volume retail markets like New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago. Applying to locations with multiple open requisitions signals active hiring momentum and increases the likelihood that sponsorship conversations are already part of the recruitment cycle.
Verify your OPT STEM eligibility before accepting an offer
If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm whether your degree qualifies for the 24-month STEM extension. A business analytics or information systems degree may qualify where a general business degree does not, giving you more runway before Gap needs to file an H-1B petition.
Ask about LCA filing timelines during the offer stage
Gap must file a Labor Condition Application with DOL before submitting an H-1B petition. Raise this in the offer negotiation stage so HR can confirm the intended start date accounts for LCA certification and USCIS processing, especially if you're approaching a status deadline.
Search Gap Business Manager roles on Migrate Mate
Gap posts Business Manager openings across multiple retail banners and locations. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for Gap roles that align with your visa type, so you can focus applications on positions where sponsorship fits your current immigration timeline.
Prepare for a retail-specific behavioral interview format
Gap's Business Manager interviews typically assess floor leadership, loss prevention awareness, and sales performance management. Document specific examples of driving unit productivity or coaching hourly teams, since these map directly to the specialty occupation criteria you'll need to support a visa petition.

Does Gap sponsor H-1B visas for Business Managers?
Yes, Gap sponsors H-1B visas for Business Manager roles. To qualify, the position must meet USCIS's specialty occupation standard, which requires a direct relationship between the role's duties and a specific bachelor's degree field. Gap's Business Manager positions typically emphasize operations, merchandising strategy, and team management, which can satisfy this standard when the applicant's degree aligns with those responsibilities.
Which visa types does Gap commonly use for Business Manager roles?
Gap sponsors several visa categories for Business Manager positions, including H-1B, E-3 (for Australian citizens), H-1B1 (for Chilean and Singaporean nationals), TN (for Canadian and Mexican nationals under USMCA), F-1 OPT and CPT, and Green Card pathways through EB-2 or EB-3 classification. The right category depends on your nationality, current status, and how long you've been in the U.S.
How do I apply for Business Manager jobs at Gap?
You can browse and apply for Business Manager openings at Gap through Migrate Mate, which filters roles by visa sponsorship type so you can identify positions that match your immigration status. Gap's Business Manager roles are posted across its retail brands and multiple store locations, so filtering by region and visa category helps you focus on the most relevant opportunities before applying directly.
What qualifications does Gap expect for Business Manager positions?
Gap typically looks for candidates with a bachelor's degree in business administration, retail management, or a related field, combined with experience leading hourly teams in a retail environment. For visa sponsorship purposes, your degree should connect directly to the operational and analytical components of the role. Experience managing KPIs like conversion rate, shrink, and staffing productivity strengthens both your application and your sponsorship case.
How do I plan my timeline if Gap is filing an H-1B for me?
H-1B cap-subject petitions can only be filed once per year, with the registration window opening in March and employment beginning no earlier than October 1. If you're on F-1 OPT, confirm your OPT expiration date and whether a STEM extension applies, since that determines how much runway you have. Gap's HR team will need several weeks to prepare the Labor Condition Application with DOL before filing with USCIS, so surface the sponsorship conversation early in the offer process.
