Frame your MBA around Microsoft's business priorities
Microsoft Business Manager roles frequently require experience aligning technical products with commercial outcomes. Highlight cross-functional projects where you drove revenue, partner growth, or market expansion, not just operational execution. Generic management experience won't differentiate you here.
Target roles within Microsoft's commercial solutions divisions
Business Manager openings tied to Microsoft Cloud, Azure, or Microsoft 365 tend to move faster through headcount approval. Filtering your search by these business units increases your odds of finding a team with active sponsorship budget already secured.
Verify your visa category before the offer stage
Microsoft sponsors H-1B, E-3, and H-1B1 visas for Business Manager positions, but the right category depends on your nationality and degree field. Clarify which pathway applies to you before negotiations start, so there's no delay when the offer is ready.
Prepare a credential evaluation for non-U.S. degrees early
USCIS requires evidence that your degree meets the specialty occupation standard for a Business Manager role. A NACES-approved evaluation of your foreign degree can take two to four weeks, so order it before you receive an offer, not after.
Understand Microsoft's PERM timeline if you're targeting permanent residence
If your goal is a Green Card through EB-2 or EB-3, Microsoft typically initiates PERM labor certification after a defined tenure period. DOL's PERM processing can take a year or more, so factor that into your long-term planning when evaluating the role.

Find Business Manager at Microsoft JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Microsoft sponsor H-1B visas for Business Managers?
Yes, Microsoft sponsors H-1B visas for Business Manager roles. The sponsorship process is handled by Microsoft's in-house immigration team, which works with your hiring manager once an offer is extended. Because H-1B cap-subject petitions are tied to the annual lottery each April, your start date will depend on where you are in the process relative to that cycle.
Which visa types does Microsoft commonly use for Business Manager roles?
Microsoft sponsors H-1B, H-1B1, and E-3 visas for Business Manager positions, depending on your nationality. Australian citizens are eligible for the E-3, which has no lottery and can be processed at a U.S. consulate. Chilean and Singaporean nationals may qualify for the H-1B1. For permanent residency, Microsoft supports EB-2 and EB-3 Green Card pathways for qualifying employees.
What qualifications and experience does Microsoft expect for Business Manager roles?
Microsoft typically expects a bachelor's degree in business, finance, economics, or a related field, along with experience in strategy, partner management, or go-to-market functions. Many posted roles prefer candidates with exposure to enterprise software, cloud services, or technology sales ecosystems. An MBA is common among applicants but not universally required. USCIS will need documentation that your role meets the specialty occupation standard.
How do I apply for Business Manager jobs at Microsoft?
You can apply through Microsoft's careers portal, but sponsorship-eligible roles aren't always easy to identify upfront. Migrate Mate filters open Business Manager positions at Microsoft by visa type, so you can confirm sponsorship availability before investing time in the application. Once you apply and progress to an offer, Microsoft's immigration team takes over the filing process directly.
How do I plan my timeline if I need H-1B sponsorship at Microsoft?
The H-1B lottery opens in March for an October 1 start date, so timing your job search to receive an offer before late February gives you the best chance of being registered in that cycle. If you're not selected, Microsoft can refile in the next lottery year or explore cap-exempt options if you qualify. USCIS premium processing, currently available for H-1B petitions, can reduce adjudication time to around 15 business days once filed.
