Align your degree to Gartner's specialty occupation standard
Gartner's engineering roles typically require a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a directly related field. A general business or unrelated STEM degree may not satisfy USCIS specialty occupation requirements, so confirm your credentials match before applying.
Target Gartner's product and platform engineering teams
Gartner's internal technology organization hires engineers across data engineering, cloud infrastructure, and enterprise software. Roles tied to core product delivery tend to have clearer sponsorship pathways than research operations or client-facing hybrid positions.
Use Migrate Mate to filter Gartner's open engineering roles
Gartner posts engineering positions across multiple boards and not all listings flag visa sponsorship explicitly. Use Migrate Mate to surface Gartner engineering jobs that are confirmed sponsorship-eligible, so you spend time on applications that can actually move forward.
Time your OPT application to Gartner's hiring cycle
If you're on F-1 OPT, factor in that H-1B cap-subject petitions must be filed by April 1 for an October 1 start. If your OPT expires before October, confirm Gartner can support a cap-gap extension or consider roles with an October target start date.
Prepare for DOL prevailing wage scrutiny in your location
Gartner has offices in major metros including Stamford, Fort Myers, and Irving. Each location carries a different DOL prevailing wage level for engineering roles. Understanding which wage level your role falls under helps you evaluate whether an offer is structured to support a successful Labor Condition Application.
Ask about green card sponsorship before accepting an offer
Gartner sponsors both EB-2 and EB-3 classifications, which require PERM labor certification. Raise the green card sponsorship question during the offer stage, not after you've started, so you understand when the employer intends to initiate PERM and which preference category applies to your role.

Find Engineering at Gartner JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does Gartner sponsor H-1B visas for Engineers?
Yes, Gartner sponsors H-1B visas for engineering roles. The process requires your role to qualify as a specialty occupation under USCIS standards, meaning it must typically require a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific technical field. Gartner files the H-1B petition as your employer, covering the Labor Condition Application with the DOL and the I-129 petition with USCIS.
How do I apply for Engineering jobs at Gartner?
You can apply directly through Gartner's careers portal or find sponsorship-confirmed listings through Migrate Mate, which filters specifically for roles open to visa sponsorship. Engineering positions at Gartner typically involve a recruiter screen, technical assessments, and multiple rounds of interviews covering both systems design and coding. Applying to roles that match your specific engineering discipline increases your chance of reaching the offer stage.
Which visa types does Gartner commonly use for Engineering roles?
Gartner supports a range of visa categories for engineering hires, including H-1B for skilled workers, F-1 OPT and CPT for students in active programs, TN for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering occupations, J-1 for exchange visitors, and EB-2 or EB-3 immigrant visa classifications for permanent residence sponsorship. The right category depends on your nationality, education, and current immigration status.
What qualifications does Gartner expect for sponsored Engineering positions?
Gartner's engineering roles generally require a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, electrical engineering, or a closely related technical field. For senior or staff-level positions, several years of hands-on experience in areas like cloud infrastructure, data pipelines, or enterprise software development carry significant weight. USCIS will also assess whether your specific degree field directly relates to the duties of the role when evaluating specialty occupation status.
How do I handle timing if my visa status is about to expire while waiting for Gartner to file?
If you're on F-1 OPT, your status is time-sensitive relative to the H-1B cap filing window, which opens in March for an October 1 start date. If your OPT expires before October 1, a timely H-1B filing can trigger a cap-gap extension under USCIS rules, allowing you to keep working. Confirm with Gartner's immigration team early in the process that they can initiate the petition before your OPT end date.
