Align your credentials to Generac's product lines
Generac builds standby generators, solar inverters, and grid-scale energy storage. Framing your degree and experience around power conversion, inverter design, or grid interconnection directly maps to their open engineering roles and strengthens a specialty occupation case for H-1B sponsorship.
Target Generac's engineering hubs strategically
Generac's Power Systems engineering teams are concentrated in Wisconsin. Applying to roles tied to their Waukesha and Eagle facilities puts you closer to hiring managers who have already navigated the sponsorship process for this function before.
Clarify sponsorship intent before the technical interview
Manufacturing employers often confirm visa sponsorship eligibility during the initial recruiter screen, not after an offer. Ask directly whether the specific Power Systems Engineering role is approved for H-1B sponsorship so you're not investing in a multi-round technical process that stalls at HR.
Prepare a degree equivalency letter early
If your electrical or systems engineering degree is from outside the U.S., get a credential evaluation from a NACES-approved agency before your offer stage. USCIS requires proof that your qualification meets U.S. bachelor's degree equivalency for H-1B specialty occupation classification.
Understand where PERM fits your timeline
Generac has sponsored EB-2 and EB-3 Green Cards for engineering roles, which require PERM labor certification through DOL. That process typically takes one to two years before an I-140 petition can be filed, so ask about the company's green card policy during offer negotiation, not after you've started.
Use Migrate Mate to find open sponsoring roles
Not every Power Systems Engineering listing at Generac is tied to an active sponsorship budget. Use Migrate Mate to filter specifically for Generac roles verified for visa sponsorship, so you're applying to positions where the pathway already exists rather than discovering late it doesn't.

Does Generac Power Systems sponsor H-1B visas for Power Systems Engineers?
Yes, Generac Power Systems has an established record of H-1B sponsorship for Power Systems Engineering roles. These positions typically meet the specialty occupation threshold given their focus on electrical systems, power conversion, and grid integration. Sponsorship is tied to specific open roles, so confirming eligibility with the recruiter early in the process is the right move.
How do I apply for Power Systems Engineering jobs at Generac Power Systems?
Applications go through Generac's careers portal, where Power Systems Engineering roles are listed under their Energy Technology or Product Engineering teams. You can also find and filter Generac's open sponsoring positions through Migrate Mate, which surfaces roles verified for visa sponsorship. Tailoring your application to Generac's specific product lines, such as energy storage or standby power, improves your chances of clearing the initial screen.
Which visa types does Generac Power Systems commonly use for Power Systems Engineering roles?
Generac sponsors both nonimmigrant and immigrant visa categories for this function. H-1B is the primary work visa used for Power Systems Engineers, requiring a specialty occupation determination and Labor Condition Application filed with DOL. For permanent residence, Generac has used the EB-2 and EB-3 employment-based Green Card pathways, which involve PERM labor certification before an I-140 petition can be filed with USCIS.
What qualifications does Generac Power Systems expect for Power Systems Engineering roles?
Most Power Systems Engineering roles at Generac require a bachelor's degree or higher in electrical engineering, power systems, or a closely related field. Hands-on experience with power electronics, inverter systems, generator controls, or grid interconnection is consistently valued. For H-1B purposes, your degree must directly relate to the role's duties, so documenting that alignment clearly in your resume and any immigration petition is important.
How long does the visa sponsorship process take when joining Generac Power Systems?
For H-1B transfers or new petitions, USCIS standard processing runs three to five months, though premium processing can reduce that to around 15 business days for an additional fee. H-1B cap-subject petitions are only filed once per year, with registration in March and work authorization starting October 1. Green Card timelines are longer, typically two or more years from PERM filing through I-140 approval, depending on your priority date and country of birth.
