Align your credentials to EB-2 requirements
City of Hope's research and clinical roles often qualify for EB-2 sponsorship, which requires an advanced degree or exceptional ability. Pull your O*NET occupation profile before applying to confirm your role's standard education benchmark and prepare your degree documentation accordingly.
Understand when PERM applies to your role
Most EB-2 and EB-3 filings at research institutions like City of Hope go through the PERM labor certification process with DOL. This requires proving no qualified U.S. workers are available, so expect a structured recruitment phase before your employer can file on your behalf.
Target departments with recurring sponsorship patterns
City of Hope's translational research, molecular diagnostics, and oncology clinical teams have historically required specialized international talent. When searching for roles, filter by these departments and flag positions that list visa sponsorship explicitly, as they're more likely to have established Green Card filing workflows.
Use Migrate Mate to research City of Hope's filing history
Before your interview, use Migrate Mate to review City of Hope's Green Card filing history by job category. Knowing which roles the organization has sponsored before strengthens your negotiating position and helps you ask the right questions during the offer stage.
Negotiate Green Card intent during the offer stage
Don't wait until after you're hired to raise Green Card sponsorship. Ask directly during the offer conversation whether the role is eligible for permanent residency filing and confirm your employer's typical timeline from hire date to PERM filing initiation, which commonly runs one to two years.
Build a prevailing wage benchmark before salary discussions
PERM filings require City of Hope to pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for your occupation and location. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up the wage level for your job title in the Los Angeles metro area so you can enter salary negotiations with an informed floor.
City of Hope Green Card Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does City of Hope sponsor Green Card visas?
Yes, City of Hope sponsors Green Card visas for qualifying research, clinical, and healthcare roles. Sponsorship typically runs through EB-2 or EB-3 employment-based pathways depending on the role's degree requirements and complexity. Positions in translational research and specialized oncology care are among those most commonly considered for permanent residency sponsorship.
Which roles at City of Hope are most likely to receive Green Card sponsorship?
Research scientists, clinical specialists, molecular biologists, and advanced practice clinicians working in City of Hope's cancer research and treatment programs are the strongest candidates for Green Card sponsorship. Roles requiring a master's degree or doctorate in a specialized field tend to align with EB-2 eligibility, while EB-3 covers roles with bachelor's-level requirements.
How do I start the Green Card process at City of Hope?
Raise the topic during your offer negotiation and confirm the role is designated as sponsorship-eligible. Once hired, City of Hope's HR or legal team typically initiates the PERM labor certification process through DOL. You'll need to provide detailed employment history, educational credentials, and any prior immigration filings for USCIS to evaluate your petition.
How long does the Green Card process take at a research institution like City of Hope?
From hire to Green Card approval, the process commonly spans several years. The PERM labor certification phase alone can take six months to over a year, followed by an I-140 petition with USCIS and, depending on your country of birth, a potentially lengthy wait for a visa number to become available through the priority date system.
How do I find Green Card-eligible jobs at City of Hope?
Migrate Mate lets you filter job listings by Green Card sponsorship eligibility and review City of Hope's historical filing activity by role type. Pair that with direct outreach to City of Hope's talent acquisition team to confirm which open positions are approved for permanent residency sponsorship before you invest time in a full application.
What is the prevailing wage for Green Card sponsorship at City of Hope?
Employers sponsoring a Green Card through the PERM labor certification process must pay at least the prevailing wage for the role. The Department of Labor determines this rate based on the specific job title, location, and experience level. The prevailing wage is locked in during the PERM filing and applies through the entire Green Card process. You can look up current rates using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
