Align your role to EB-2 requirements
Mastercard's Green Card filings skew heavily toward EB-2, which requires a position demanding an advanced degree or exceptional ability. Before applying, verify your target role's job description explicitly states a master's degree or equivalent as a minimum requirement, not a preference.
Target engineering and data teams first
Mastercard's highest Green Card sponsorship activity clusters in software engineering, data science, and cybersecurity. When filtering open roles, prioritize those within technology or product infrastructure divisions, where the company has the clearest precedent for sponsoring permanent residence filings.
Understand the PERM recruitment timeline
PERM requires Mastercard to run a documented recruitment process proving no qualified U.S. worker is available. This adds four to twelve months before USCIS even sees your petition. Ask your recruiter early whether the role has an existing PERM template or starts fresh.
Check your prevailing wage category before negotiating
Your PERM-certified wage must meet DOL's prevailing wage for your occupation and location. Use the OFLC Wage Search to look up Level II and Level III wage benchmarks for your job title in the metro area where Mastercard is placing you, before salary discussions begin.
Search Mastercard's verified sponsorship history on Migrate Mate
Pull Mastercard's DOL Labor Condition Application filing history on Migrate Mate to see which job titles and office locations have active sponsorship patterns. This helps you target teams with a genuine sponsorship track record rather than roles where Green Card filings are rare or one-off.
Get your credentials evaluated before the offer stage
If your degree is from outside the U.S., PERM requires a credential evaluation confirming it's equivalent to a U.S. bachelor's or master's. Order a course-by-course evaluation from a NACES-member organization before Mastercard's immigration team initiates the PERM process, not after.
Mastercard Green Card Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Mastercard sponsor Green Card visas?
Yes, Mastercard sponsors Green Card visas for eligible employees, primarily through the EB-2 and EB-3 preference categories. Sponsorship is most common in technical and engineering roles. The process typically begins after you've established yourself in the company, as Mastercard initiates filings rather than committing at the offer stage.
Which roles at Mastercard are most likely to receive Green Card sponsorship?
Software engineering, data science, cybersecurity, and financial technology roles have the strongest Green Card sponsorship precedent at Mastercard. Corporate functions like finance and operations are sponsored less frequently. Roles that require specialized technical skills and an advanced degree tend to qualify most cleanly under the EB-2 category.
How do I start the Green Card process at Mastercard?
Mastercard's internal immigration team or a retained law firm typically initiates the process. After you've been in your role for some time, your manager or HR partner can escalate a sponsorship request. PERM labor certification through DOL is usually the first formal step, followed by an I-140 petition filed with USCIS.
How long does the Green Card process take at Mastercard?
The full timeline depends on your country of birth and the EB preference category. PERM alone can take six to eighteen months. Once USCIS approves the I-140, applicants born in countries without a visa backlog may adjust status within a year, while others from high-demand countries can wait significantly longer due to annual per-country limits.
How do I find open Green Card sponsorship roles at Mastercard?
Use Migrate Mate to filter Mastercard job listings by Green Card sponsorship history, which surfaces roles where the company has previously filed LCAs or PERM applications. Cross-reference the job title against your credentials and target teams where Mastercard's sponsorship pattern is consistent, not isolated to a single filing.
What is the prevailing wage for Green Card sponsorship at Mastercard?
Employers sponsoring a Green Card through the PERM labor certification process must pay at least the prevailing wage for the role. The Department of Labor determines this rate based on the specific job title, location, and experience level. The prevailing wage is locked in during the PERM filing and applies through the entire Green Card process. You can look up current rates using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
