Map your role to the right EB category
State Street files under both EB-2 and EB-3, and which category applies depends on your role's defined requirements. Quantitative analysts and software engineers with advanced degrees typically land in EB-2, while operations and support roles often fall under EB-3. Clarify this before your first interview.
Benchmark your salary against PERM wage requirements
PERM requires State Street to pay you at least the DOL prevailing wage for your occupation and location. Before negotiating an offer, look up your job title's wage level using the OFLC Wage Search so you know whether the offer clears the threshold that triggers PERM eligibility.
Understand how PERM recruitment affects your timeline
Before filing your PERM labor certification, DOL requires State Street to complete a documented recruitment process showing no qualified U.S. workers were available. This recruitment window adds several months to your green card timeline and typically begins after your offer is accepted.
Target teams with recurring sponsorship history
State Street's technology infrastructure, risk analytics, and custody operations divisions have historically filed Green Card petitions with regularity. Targeting open roles in these functions, rather than client-facing or generalist positions, puts you closer to teams where Green Card sponsorship is an established part of hiring.
Use Migrate Mate to find State Street roles with sponsorship history
Search State Street on Migrate Mate to see which job titles have active sponsorship history before you apply. This lets you prioritize roles where the company has already built an internal process for Green Card filing, reducing negotiation friction after an offer.
Ask about I-140 timing during the offer stage
At State Street, the gap between your start date and I-140 approval can stretch over a year depending on PERM processing at DOL. Ask your recruiter or HR contact whether the team typically initiates the PERM process within your first year, since earlier filing preserves your priority date sooner.
State Street Green Card Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does State Street sponsor Green Card visas?
Yes, State Street sponsors Green Card visas for eligible employees, primarily through the EB-2 and EB-3 employment-based categories. Sponsorship is most common in technology, quantitative finance, and operations roles. Green Card sponsorship is typically initiated after you've joined the company and demonstrated performance in your position, not at the offer stage.
Which departments at State Street are most likely to sponsor Green Cards?
Technology infrastructure, risk and quantitative analytics, and global custody operations are the departments at State Street where Green Card sponsorship has been most consistent. These teams hire internationally for specialized skills and have established internal HR processes for managing PERM filings and I-140 petitions through USCIS.
How do I start the Green Card process at State Street?
The process typically starts with your manager and HR business partner identifying you for sponsorship, followed by State Street engaging immigration counsel to file a PERM labor certification with DOL. You'll need to provide detailed job duties, your educational credentials, and employment history. USCIS then adjudicates the I-140 petition once PERM is certified.
How long does the Green Card process take at State Street?
From PERM filing through I-140 approval can take one to two years depending on DOL and USCIS processing times. If you're from India or China, the wait for an immigrant visa number after I-140 approval can extend significantly due to per-country backlogs. Your priority date, set when PERM is filed, determines your place in that queue.
How do I find open Green Card sponsorship roles at State Street?
Migrate Mate lets you filter State Street job listings by sponsorship history so you can identify which roles and teams have an active track record of Green Card filings. This is more targeted than applying broadly and hoping sponsorship comes up in conversation. Focus your applications on the technology and quantitative functions where sponsorship is most established.
What is the prevailing wage for Green Card sponsorship at State Street?
Employers sponsoring a Green Card through the PERM labor certification process must pay at least the prevailing wage for the role. The Department of Labor determines this rate based on the specific job title, location, and experience level. The prevailing wage is locked in during the PERM filing and applies through the entire Green Card process. You can look up current rates using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
