Align your degree to BlackRock's specialty occupation roles
BlackRock's H-1B filings concentrate in quantitative finance, software engineering, and data science. Before applying, confirm your degree field directly maps to your target role's job description, not just the broader department. A mismatch between degree and specialty occupation is the most common H-1B denial trigger.
Research BlackRock's LCA filings by job title
BlackRock files Labor Condition Applications through DOL before each H-1B petition. Search the OFLC Wage Search by employer name and job title to see which roles BlackRock has historically sponsored. This tells you which positions have a real sponsorship pathway before you invest time applying.
Target full-time conversion from BlackRock internships
BlackRock's summer analyst and associate programs in quantitative strategies and technology are a documented pipeline to H-1B sponsorship. If you're on OPT, securing a return offer through an internship significantly increases your chances of H-1B sponsorship as a known quantity to the hiring team.
Negotiate your offer timeline around the H-1B cap lottery
BlackRock files H-1B cap petitions each April for an October 1 start date. If you're graduating mid-year, discuss OPT bridging with your recruiter early so your employment gap doesn't disrupt onboarding. USCIS requires cap petitions to be submitted in the first five business days of April.
Benchmark your salary against BlackRock's prevailing wage obligations
Use the OFLC Wage Search and O*NET to identify the prevailing wage for your target role and location before your offer call. BlackRock must pay at least the DOL prevailing wage, so understanding the floor helps you evaluate whether the offer is competitive and structurally compliant.
Use Migrate Mate to verify BlackRock's H-1B filing history by role
Before applying, pull BlackRock's H-1B filing history on Migrate Mate filtered by occupation code and office location. This shows you which teams and job titles have a real sponsorship track record, so you can prioritize roles where H-1B approval is an established pattern rather than a one-off.
BlackRock H-1B Visa Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does BlackRock sponsor H-1B visas?
Yes, BlackRock sponsors H-1B visas across multiple business areas, including technology, quantitative research, risk analytics, and portfolio management. The firm has a consistent record of H-1B filings and is recognized as an active sponsor in the asset management industry. Roles in engineering and data science see the highest sponsorship activity.
Which departments at BlackRock are most likely to sponsor H-1B visas?
BlackRock's technology division, quantitative research teams, Aladdin product engineering, and risk analytics are the departments most closely associated with H-1B sponsorship. Finance and operations roles in the asset management business are also sponsored, though less frequently than technical and data-heavy positions.
How do I find H-1B roles at BlackRock that match my background?
Search BlackRock's careers page by job function and filter for roles that require the degree field you hold. Migrate Mate lets you cross-reference BlackRock's DOL Labor Condition Application data by occupation code, so you can identify which specific job titles have an established H-1B sponsorship history rather than applying broadly.
How do I navigate the H-1B application process after receiving a BlackRock offer?
Once BlackRock extends a full-time offer, their immigration team or an outside counsel typically manages the H-1B petition. You'll need to provide academic credentials, your current visa status documentation, and employment records. USCIS processes cap-subject petitions starting in April each year for an October 1 start date, so timing your offer accordingly matters.
How long does H-1B sponsorship take at BlackRock?
Standard H-1B cap processing through USCIS runs three to five months from the April filing window to an October 1 start date. BlackRock may use premium processing to accelerate adjudication to approximately 15 business days when timelines are tight. If you're already on OPT or another work status, a cap-exempt transfer may have a faster timeline.
What is the prevailing wage for H-1B jobs at BlackRock?
H-1B employers must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is determined when they file the Labor Condition Application with the Department of Labor. The rate is based on the role, location, and experience level, and ensures international hires are paid comparably to U.S. workers in the same position. You can look up prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the DOL's OFLC Wage Search tool.
