Frame Your Engineering Experience Around Retail Operations
HED hires engineers who understand how retail environments function, from store buildouts to systems infrastructure. Tailor your resume to highlight projects tied to commercial construction, facilities management, or retail technology deployments before you apply.
Ask Directly About LCA Filing During Offer Negotiation
Before signing, confirm the employer will file a Labor Condition Application with DOL for your specific role and work location. Retail engineering positions sometimes involve multi-site responsibilities, and the LCA must reflect your actual primary worksite.
Use Migrate Mate to Find Open Engineering Roles at HED
Search Migrate Mate to browse current Engineering openings at HED filtered by visa sponsorship type. This saves time identifying which roles are actively sponsored rather than applying broadly and confirming eligibility later in the process.
Understand How TN Classification Applies to Your Discipline
If you're a Canadian or Mexican national, TN visa eligibility depends on your specific engineering designation matching a USMCA-listed category. Civil, mechanical, and electrical engineers qualify by name; confirm your discipline is listed before positioning TN as your primary path.
Prepare a Specialty Occupation Brief for Your Engineering Role
USCIS scrutinizes H-1B petitions for roles where degree requirements aren't obvious. For retail engineering positions, document how your specific job duties require at minimum a bachelor's degree in a directly related engineering field, not just general technical experience.

Find Engineering at HED JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does HED sponsor H-1B visas for Engineers?
Yes, HED has sponsored H-1B visas for Engineering roles. Because the H-1B is subject to an annual cap and lottery, timing matters. Your employer needs to file a petition in the spring registration window for an October 1 start date. Confirm sponsorship eligibility with the hiring team early in the interview process, before an offer is extended.
How do I apply for Engineering jobs at HED?
Applications go through HED's careers portal. Use Migrate Mate to browse current Engineering openings at HED filtered by visa sponsorship type, so you can focus on roles actively open to sponsored candidates. When you reach the interview stage, raise visa sponsorship directly rather than waiting for the offer stage, since engineering roles sometimes involve site-specific requirements that affect the filing.
Which visa types does HED use for Engineering roles?
HED sponsors H-1B and TN visas for Engineering positions and also works with F-1 OPT candidates. H-1B is the most common long-term path. TN is available to Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying engineering disciplines under the USMCA. F-1 OPT bridges the gap for recent graduates while an H-1B petition is prepared.
What qualifications does HED expect for Engineering positions?
Most Engineering roles at HED require a bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline, such as civil, mechanical, electrical, or systems engineering. Retail sector experience, particularly in commercial construction, facilities, or technical project management, strengthens your application. USCIS requires that the offered role constitute a specialty occupation, meaning the degree must be directly tied to the job duties.
How do I plan my timeline for H-1B sponsorship at HED?
The H-1B cap filing window opens in March each year, with employment authorized from October 1 if selected. You need an offer in hand before your employer can file. If you're on F-1 OPT, your OPT period must extend through at least October 1, or you'll need cap-gap protection. Start conversations with HED's recruiting team no later than January to allow time for Labor Condition Application processing with DOL before the March window opens.
